Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Offering Virtual Community Education Classes

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is offering a variety of virtual community education classes following the cancellation of in-person classes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

For pregnant or new mothers and their partners, a free Baby Care Basics class is available via Zoom on July 22 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., according to the website. 

“This informal class will help new parents feel more comfortable caring for their newborn,” the event page reads. “Taught by a pediatrician, topics include newborn care, sleep patterns, vaccinations and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).”

Prior registration is required, with a discussion session allowing the opportunity to ask questions.

Then on July 27 from 1 to 2 p.m., a Joint Replacement Education class is available for those having a hip, knee or shoulder replacement. 

“Join us for a free class designed to help patients get ready for their surgery and recovery,” the event page reads. “The class is taught by the nurse navigator and will cover topics like your role in recovery, what you need to do before and after surgery, pain management and physical therapy.”

Prior registration is also required to participate, according to the website.

Other classes scheduled for the month of July include Diabetes Self-Management, Heart Healthy Nutrition, First Weeks Breastfeeding Workshop, Hiking and Venomous Snake Bite Prevention and Treatment, and more.
