In March, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is scheduled to re-open for elective surgeries for Santa Clarita residents following closures due to COVID-19.
Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is slated to re-open for elective surgeries beginning in March, according to the hospital’s Facebook live discussion.
“I’m pleased to say that we now are seeing a tremendous decline in the number of hospitalized patients,” said Dr. Larry Kidd, Henry Mayo’s senior vice president and chief clinical officer. “With that, the health department is allowing us to resume some of the services that we have delayed or we have reduced as a result of having to take care of the number of really sick COVID patients we’ve had.”
Kidd was joined by Britta DeVolder, the hospital’s senior director of perioperative services, who described some of Henry Mayo’s re-opening services.
“We do a majority of general and orthopedics, ENT procedures, GYN, and urology,” DeVolder said. “Those were procedures that weren’t emergent during COVID, and during the time we’ve been closed since December, these have all been put on hold.”
DeVolder and Kidd clarified that COVID-19 testing precautions will continue despite the re-opening of services.
“We are testing all of our patients,” DeVolder said. “Your visitors at this time are still not able to come with you but we have policies and procedures in place to make sure that your loved ones are updated and that we’re able to get you back to them as quickly as possible after surgery.”
The team reminded viewers to contact their physicians if they have been delaying any procedures due to recent closures.
“We’ve started to schedule more patients in the main hospital to accommodate those surgeries that do need a little bit of a stay after surgery,” DeVolder said.
