During this episode of Insight Treatment Hour, Fredrick was joined by special guest Niki Payne, CCHt to break down the facts, benefits and misconceptions of supplementing mental health treatment with hypnotherapy.
Payne’s journey to practicing hypnotherapy begins with her struggle as an adolescent and young adult.
When her college boyfriend passed away from drug addiction she found herself feeling lost and guilty, on her search for answers and healing Payne stumbled upon the Hypnosis Motivation Institute in Tarzana.
Through her education, everything just fell into place for Payne and she has worked as a Certified Dream Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist and NLP Practitioner ever since.
Payne explains that hypnotherapy is actually more akin to guided meditation.
“It is creating a safe space where we’re physically relaxing the body so that the mind can relax a little bit more,” Payne explains “It’s getting someone to feel so safe that the critical filter within their mind kind of goes to sleep.”

Payne then states that when this “critical filter” is turned on a person’s logic, critical thinking skills, reasoning or decision making all sort of block access to your subconscious.
Through hypnosis, a practitioner can put a client’s “filter” on a brief pause. This allows for the hypnotherapist to “plant” suggestions within the subconscious mind.
Payne explains this is a great way for someone to process what’s going on through imagination and creative visualization in the safety of the subconscious. She states that this gives the client both safety and distance to work through complicated emotions.
