The educational presentation, held in partnership with Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Oakmont of Santa Clarita.
“It’s a seminar or a workshop to educate people on how to connect with their loved ones going through that journey of Alzheimer’s disease,” said Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Santa Clarita.

Dembkowski continued that it can be frustrating when a family member doesn’t understand their loved one, or the loved one doesn’t understand them.
The workshop is expected to address this common issue by teaching attendees techniques on how to react and communicate with their loved one, helping them to continue to build the relationship despite the Alzheimer’s disease.
“This is such a difficult journey,” said Dembkowski. “Another positive aspect of (the workshop) … is to be with others that are going through a similar experience. I think unless you’ve gone through it personally, it’s hard to relate.”
Dembkowski concluded, “To be able to bring people together to learn techniques to better deal with the disease, that’s a priority for us.”
