The luxury Santa Clarita senior living community Oakmont of Valencia had its grand opening last month, and space is still available for both assisted living and memory care, officials said.

“The community has now come to life with people living there, and it’s been a whirlwind, but so, so exciting,” said Mary Dembkowski, marketing director at Oakmont of Valencia. “We’re still marketing the community because we still have openings in both our assisted living and memory care.”

While its sister community, Oakmont of Santa Clarita, has a larger assisted living and smaller memory care, Oakmont of Valencia was designed to meet the need for care of seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease while still accommodating traditional assisted living as well.

“At Valencia we have a smaller assisted living and a larger memory care,” Dembkowski said. “Even though we say we have a larger memory care, we actually have two intimate memory care communities at Oakmont of Valencia.” 

The intimate feel of the memory care communities at Oakmont of Valencia aims to help residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease feel at home while still giving them space to go for walks or sit in the gardens without being overwhelmed, according to Dembkowski. 

“In a memory care community, the residents that live there have different needs,” she said. “It’s just a different environment suited for their needs so that they’re not anxious, they’re not fearful, they know there’s always someone there directing them if they’re not sure what they’re supposed to be doing.”
