Orthodontist In Santa Clarita Explains The Differences Between Clear And Metal Braces

An Orthodontist in Santa Clarita recently explained the various differences between clear and metal braces.

Metal braces are known as traditional braces because they are the first thing that comes to mind for parents that may have had braces when they were younger. Metal braces have been around since the early 1900’s.

Clear braces are much newer, so many people are not as familiar with them.

“They are newer because of the developments that we’ve had in ceramics,” explained an official with Embrace Your Smile Orthodontics in Santa Clarita.

Ceramic material in the past was not as good as metal for braces because ceramic was more brittle. Adding more forces to the teeth could cause the braces to break.

Today, many improvements have been made to clear braces such as making the brackets stronger and less brittle. It can now do everything that a metal bracket can do.

“When my patients ask me what is the difference between clear and metal braces, what I tell them is it’s just a difference between wearing a white T-shirt and a black T-shirt. It’s your preference,” said an Embrace Your Smile official.

The most important thing is choosing which option will be most comfortable for you to wear. You will be wearing your braces for 1 to 2 years, so it is important to follow your orthodontist’s advice as to which option is best for you.

Another great option that has been added over the years is the ability to add color to either choice of braces. This can be one of the fun things about wearing braces, where kids can add their school or team colors to their braces.
