Parenting A Teen With Anxiety – A Conversation With Insight Teen Mental Health Treatment Center

Anxiety is one of the chief struggles of humanity. We all need a degree of anxiety to survive, a healthy awareness of our surroundings and responsibilities, but it can often grow out of control.

Insight Treatment Center is an out-patient mental health care facility for teenagers and their families struggling with mental and behavioral illness.

In a recent episode of the Insight Teen Treatment Hour on KHTS radio, host Jennifer Campoy and guest speaker Dr. Michele Witkin discussed the effect of anxiety on teens.

Dr. Michele Witkin, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist is a Santa Clarita local therapist who has taken a special interest in anxiety disorders, specifically Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Her practice here in Santa Clarita focuses on the treatment of children, teens, and adults with anxiety disorders.

One of the things discussed between the two professionals in this recent episode was how parents can help their child or teen who is struggling with anxiety.

Dr. Witkin mentioned how as a parent, often the first instinct is to console and reassure, but many parents find themselves worn out and the realization that their child can not be reassured enough to make their anxiety go away. This creates rifts and conflict within the family, creating tension between all family members.

Getting treatment for anxiety or OCD doesn’t have to be intimidating. The what-if questions are taking over your or your teens’ life and it is time to learn some professional ways of coping, strengthening, all with advice for parents as well.

Insight Treatment Center for teens and their families is a unique treatment center in that it focuses not just on the issue at hand, but how the family as a whole can begin to heal and grow.

Treatment and help does not have to be the last resort. If you see  your teen struggling, have an open conversation with them as best you can and try to determine together what the next steps are. When a teen needs healing, a whole family needs healing, and important skills you can all learn together at Insight Treatment.

  1. Letting teens listen to Gangster Rap (PC called Hip Hop to fool & sell, sell, sell to the vulnerable Naive Sheeple) will definitely cause subtle anxiety because of lyrics of rape/violence/drugs/disgusting lifestyles/etc.!
