Santa Clarita Audiologist Addresses Myths About Hearing Loss

Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology is addressing two myths about hearing loss that many people may still believe to be true.

#1: “If I had a hearing loss, my family doctor would have told me.”

Aronson noted that the reality is, only 14 percent of physicians routinely screen for hearing loss during a physical.

Because hearing is so important to communication, and with today’s health care system limiting the physician’s time to be able to do everything needed, Advanced Audiology is offering free hearing screenings right from the waiting room of several local doctor’s offices.

“So you don’t even have to go anywhere,” Aronson said. “Then we can help the doctors out by telling them about their patients and how their patient can be helped.”

Advanced Audiology currently has partnerships with three different local doctor’s offices in an effort to help the doctor give their patients even better care than they already give, Aronson continued.

She encouraged any residents who would like to have their doctor’s office provide this service to speak to their physician about it, and any physicians interested in partnering with Advanced Audiology can contact Steven at Advanced Audiology at 661-592-2718 for more information.

#2: “My hearing is normal for my age.”

While this is a common belief, Aronson asked why people think age has anything to do with hearing.

“Do you ever hear a doctor say your blood pressure is normal for your age? What does that mean? Your blood pressure is either normal or not normal — it has nothing to do with age,” said Aronson. “Age has nothing to do with hearing loss either.”

Babies can be born with a hearing loss, and the staff at Advanced Audiology see patients of all ages, working to provide effective hearing loss solutions for each person’s unique situation.
