Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology has set a goal of giving 2,000 free hearing screenings to community members this year.

In 2017, Aronson and the team at Advanced Audiology exceeded their goal of giving 1,500 free hearing screenings to residents, and so decided to raise the bar even higher in 2018.

“We don’t want there to be anything standing in the way of somebody at least knowing what they need to do about their communication to lead a better social life,” Aronson said. “So we provide that.”

In addition to giving thousands of free hearing screenings, Aronson is planning to focus 2018 on increasing community education and awareness when it comes to hearing and communication issues.

Aronson is encouraging residents to log on to the Advanced Audiology website, scvadvancedaudiology.com, and submit ideas for a special series she’s planning, which will feature free breakfast, hearing screenings and a discussion about a variety of different topics related to hearing.

“We would like to educate people about communication and hearing, and therefore we were thinking that we would like to invite maybe 10 people at a time to our office,” Aronson said.

One possible topic could be the variety of diseases that have been linked to hearing loss in recent studies, such as heart disease and Alzheimer’s.

Aronson believes that by increasing awareness about topics like this, residents can improve their quality of life — and even their physical health — by making sure their hearing is properly taken care of.  

“We feel that hearing is so important to life,” she said, “and your overall wellness.”
