Santa Clarita Woman Creates Online Campaign In Hopes Of Launching New Beauty Product

A Santa Clarita woman recently started a campaign for a new beauty product she envisioned, and is asking for the community’s support in helping make her “dream product” a reality.

Lauren Glickman submitted her idea for a fruit-powered amla brightening eye cream to Volition Beauty, and was selected to receive an online campaign that could see her product created.

If Glickman’s campaign receives 2,000 votes within a designated time period, her product would be manufactured by Volition Beauty and sold both online and in Sephora stores, according to Glickman.

“(Amla) was a discovery based on something personal that happened with me with a traumatic accident that happened to my cervical spine,” Glickman said. “It is widely used with global herbalist doctors.”

Amla is an Indian berry that contains high levels of Vitamin C and antioxidants, according to Glickman.

Because her husband is from India, Glickman’s family recommended incorporating amla into her diet while she healed from her injury, and she said she was amazed by the results.*

“It’s a powerful superfood,” Glickman said. “(I was) debilitated for over a year and just trying to find ways to figure out how to fight inflammation, and then all of a sudden, discovering (amla)… My neurosurgeon said I recovered so much quicker than most patients of his.”

Not only did amla seem to help with her healing process, Glickman noted that she also noticed a marked difference in her skin.

When she told her mother-in-law about amla’s unexpected effect, she discovered that the berry isn’t necessarily new to the beauty industry and is common in hair products, but typically not used in skincare.

“This thing is amazing, but nobody really knows about it,” Glickman said. “They’re using amla in hair care, … (but) nobody knows about how it can benefit the skincare community as well with helping with radiant skin, with skin tone, brightening the complexion.”

After pitching the idea to Volition Beauty, company experts partnered with Glickman to devise a complete ingredient list for an amla-powered eye cream designed to brighten under the eyes, hydrate and soothe skin, and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

“They were thrilled because this is something that’s unique,” Glickman said. “There isn’t anything (amla-based) really on the (skincare) market… I submitted it and they liked it, so here I am.”

As of Tuesday, Glickman’s campaign still needed about 1,900 votes in the next 66 days in order to make the product a reality. If the product is created, those who voted to support the campaign would receive 20 percent off the retail price, according to the website.

When asked what Glickman’s vision for the product would be if she garners the necessary votes in time, Glickman responded, “To be able to help others in the world by what I’ve discovered.”

“Amla is very well-recognized in India,” she continued, “and I want to help my community recognize this superhero beauty berry filled with so many skin benefits.”
