Santa Clarita Spiritual Medium Yesenia Berbiar has spoken with spirits of the departed since she was a young girl, and aims to help spirits move on through this special connection.

“At three (years old), … it was my great-grandmother,” said Berbiar, of the first spirit who reached out to her. “I definitely started speaking to my dad when he passed away when I was seven.”

Now, Berbiar is invested in helping to heal the hearts and souls of her clientele — among both the living and the departed.

As a spiritual medium, Berbiar said she’s easily able to reach out to speak with her clients’ loved ones. She does admit that “some are more available than others.” If her clients have “an open heart and open mind,” the connection comes more easily.

“I dream readings before (meeting the clients),” Berbiar said. “The spirits come and visit me. I also get to feel a lot of what the person died of.”

In order to better explain the process of connecting with spirits, Berbiar recalled a trip to ruins in Ireland which led to a conversation with a family of restless ghosts.

“We went to this haunted mansion. It was Ross Castle. And it was interesting because they purposely put me in a room … where they had the dead bodies (at some point in the past),” said Berbiar. “It was the only time I’ve ever slept with my clothes on (while) on vacation.”

Upon conducting a seance, Berbiar said she could feel that there was a family who had been murdered inside the castle.

“There were kids and there were parents, and we had names and we talked about it,” Berbiar said. “And I told them, ‘If I find your tomb and if I bring you flowers, do you promise to go to heaven?’ And they said, ‘Yes.’”

The following day, Berbiar explained that she brought wildflowers with her as she and her husband toured the cemetery near the ruins.

“I went on to the cemetery, and we found the tombstones. They had been broken in half. I said my piece and I was able to sleep in the room perfectly fine,” Berbiar said. “My husband and I were just great after that.”

When asked whether working with spirits is difficult or draining, Berbair explained that in many cases she finds the work exhilarating, getting a lot of energy out of it.

“Everyone’s energy that’s in the room (while I’m working with the spirits) — their energy helps fuel me,” the spiritual medium explained. “So the more I can help (my clients),” she continued, “their vibration goes up. And once that happens, I get some of that in return as well.”
