The Santa Clarita Hearing Center Encourages Hearing Aid Wearers To Take Proper Care Of Their Hearing Aids

By taking a few minutes out of your day to care for your hearing aids, it can ensure they last a very long time.

Maintenance includes cleaning, storing and checking on your hearing aid batteries. Cleaning is the first step in ensuring long-lasting hearing aids. Hearing aids should be wiped down daily with a dry cloth. You should never use water or cleansers to clean them.

Hearing aids should always stay dry. Avoiding water and cleansers to clean them may not be enough. Other products such as hair spray, sunscreen, lotion and makeup can damage your hearing aids.

It is important to keep in mind these products since it can be easy to forget. Remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming and anything involving water. If your hearing aids accidentally get any product or water on them, make an appointment.

Even if you think nothing affected the hearing aid, Santa Clarita Hearing Center can ensure that you did not. If a product accidentally got into the hearing aid, it can be worse to neglect an appointment and risk damaging them.

Earwax buildup in the hearing aid is bound to happen if you wear them all day long. Make sure to remove the earwax from the hearing aids with a wax loop or bush.

Every one to two months, change your wax filters to keep sounds performing at their best. If your ear molds or tubing becomes dry, discolored or cracked, make an appointment for a replacement.

Another important factor in caring for your hearing aids is storing it in a safe way. When you are not wearing your hearing aid, you should leave the battery door open. Store it in a cool, dry place to avoid trapping moisture inside of it. Never put your hearing aids in your pocket because you can easily lose them. They should always be put in their protective case.
