Where To Stay Active In Santa Clarita

Don’t just sit there! Santa Clarita has so many great places to be active and sporty, which means there’s no excuse not to seek out some fitness here.

With the Health & Fitness Expo 2019 happening in Santa Clarita this November 1-2, now’s as good a time as any to get fit and make sure you’re ready for the major race. Whatever sport or activity you like doing, there’s definitely something in Santa Clarita that will suit you. Team sport? Solo? Something extreme? No matter what, there’s a place for you.

Find new friends on Meetup.com

If you’re new to the area or simply wish to branch out and find new people to hang out with, Meetup.com’s Sports & Fitness Santa Clarita page is full of fun, adventurous, and friendly groups. The great thing about these groups is that they meet up usually every week, and you don’t need to sign up for a monthly contract or anything. Some sessions require a payment to help fund the hiring of a gym, for example, but these are small fees. Here are some examples of sports & fitness groups on Meetup.com:

PUG Sports Zone – Nothing to do with the dog breed, PUG (Pick Up Games) Sports Zone is a coed group that plays a different sport every week. From basketball to soccer to volleyball, each week mixes up the teams and you simply play to the best of your abilities. So don’t worry, there’s no coach shouting at you from the sideline! Check the schedule and see if there’s a sport for you.

I Love Tennis – Pretty much what it says! This group plays tennis at the San Fernando Valley and welcomes players of all skill levels. You simply need to bring a racket and they’ll provide the tennis balls and even some refreshments. Whether you’re the next version of Roger Federer or simply like to run about and hit tennis balls, join the group and get started.

Woodland Hills Walking and Hiking: Want something a little less intense? This walking club goes on some lovely hikes around Santa Clarita, where you’ll get to experience some wonderful views and meet people who like to take life as it comes. There are various trails to walk on, ranging from amateur to intermediate levels, so message the group leader to find out which ones might be best for you.

Skatepark

The local skatepark is the perfect spot for kids, teenagers, and even adults to try out tricks and show off their skating prowess. Open all year round, the skatepark is a safe and supportive area where skateboarders, bmxers, and rollerbladers can all try out new moves and get some exercise and fresh air. With a 9-foot and 6-foot clover bowl, halfpipe, 10-foot square bowl, and various rails and ramps suitable for different age groups, a skatepark is the place to be if you want some fitness that’s a little more daring. Don’t wear your best clothing, as you should expect to get a bit dirty and scuffed up! Note for parents: there’s no way your kids are coming back from the skatepark with clean clothing, so this might be useful for when you need to get their jeans back to being clean.

Find a gym

If you like to be spontaneous with your fitness regime and prefer to be indoors, then joining a local gym is the best way to go. There are many great gyms around Santa Clarita, including some with a pool and some specialty gyms that focus less on weights and more on CrossFit. Many of these gyms are 24/7, so they can fit around your schedule.

Go outside and explore!

If you don’t even know what you want to do to stay fit, just explore the local area. There are many basketball courts and soccer pitches to play on, which means you could get to know your city by playing on every court, for example. So don’t just play video games and eat potato chips! Get outside and enjoy the sports and fitness options Santa Clarita has to offer.
