KHTS Adopt A Pet: Lilly, Castaic Animal Shelter (VIDEO)

Watching Lilly prance through the play yard at the Castaic Animal Shelter and roll around gleefully in the grass, a passerby would probably never guess the chihuahua/corgi mix is 8 years old.

A volunteer favorite at the shelter, Lilly seems to be the perfect balance between calm and energetic, independent and affectionate.KHTS Adopt a Pet - Lilly

“She is calm, but has a lot of energy for her age,” said Renee Focht, a shelter volunteer. “Lilly’s a bit independent, (but) she does like people.”

Lilly was previously adopted from the shelter, but found herself back where she started in July when her former family returned her for not getting along with the other pets in the home.

“She is dog selective,” Focht said. “Lilly is good with everybody, except some dogs.”

Focht described Lilly’s ideal adopter as someone who enjoys taking leisurely walks.

“Lilly likes to go for walks — they don’t have to be really long or really fast paced,” Focht said. “She’s a great walking companion… She’s just an all around great dog.”

The adoption fee for Lilly is currently being sponsored, with the adopter only needing to pay for her microchip and licensing.

“Lilly is a volunteer favorite,” Focht said, “so we just want to make sure that she does go to the right home.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
