KHTS Adopt A Pet: Nova, St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary (VIDEO)

Sporting a brand new lion cut, 8-year-old shepherd mix Nova made her debut in the spotlight by happily bounding into the room and instantly flopping onto her back on the couch for tummy rubs.

Nova has spent the last year at St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary waiting for her forever home, and sanctuary staff have watched her transform from being a depressed, sick shelter dog to a healthy and outgoing pup.KHTS Adopt a Pet - Nova

“She was just so depressed (at the shelter),” said Megan Haselwood, a St. Bonnie’s adoption counselor. “She trusts us enough now to where we’re her family now, so as soon as she sees us, she starts going crazy — she wants to be loved on.”

Even the sight of a leash before a walk gets Nova excited, but overall the senior shepherd is what Haselwood called a couch potato.

“She loves people. She loves being with them all the time,” Haselwood said. “She loves everybody, every person — it doesn’t matter who you are.”

Nova does need to be the only animal in the home, which Haselwood noted is why she’s been at St. Bonnie’s for so long.

Haselwood described Nova’s ideal adopter as someone with a yard that likes to go for walks, adding that she’s hoping for “a big family that can give her all the love that she deserves.”

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Every Wednesday, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 40 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 30 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by Features Director Melissa Lampert, who has more than 10 years of experience in the animal rescue world and co-founded Madeline’s Angels Pet Sanctuary in Santa Clarita in 2016.
