KHTS Adopt A Pet: URGENT – Shady, Castaic Animal Shelter (VIDEO)

A 4-year-old pitbull named Shady has been at the Castaic Animal Shelter the longest of all the dogs, despite her mellow, affectionate personality.

Shady found herself at the shelter about two months ago after her owner suddenly became unable to care for her, along with her two canine siblings and reptile roommates.

“All of Shady’s friends have been adopted and she is the last one left,” said Terra Dispirito, a shelter volunteer. “When a dog is in the shelter that long, they tend to get a little sad, a little depressed… She’s a really good dog and deserves another chance.”

Always full of tail wags for shelter volunteers, Shady is a “couch potato” at heart and would probably be content to simply lounge around with her future family while getting lots of love, according to Dispirito.

“If you just want to sit and watch TV and chill with a dog, this is your dog,” Dispirito said. “This is just an easy dog for any family. She’s very mellow, she is super friendly (with) kids, people… She’s an all-around great dog.”

Shady is already housetrained, knows basic commands like “sit” and walks well on a leash, Dispirito added.

“She’s a good girl,” Dispirito said. “She’s just an all-around amazing dog and just deserves the best home.”

To find out more about Shady, Animal ID #A5195539, or the adoption process at the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control’s Castaic Animal Care Center, call (661) 257-3191, stop by the shelter at 31044 North Charlie Canyon Road in Castaic, or click here.

The community is invited to meet the adoptable dogs and cats of the Castaic Animal Care Center at “Pours for Paws” on Sunday, May 19 from 12-3 p.m. at Pocock Brewing Company in Santa Clarita.

About the KHTS Adopt a Pet Series

Once a month, the KHTS Adopt a Pet series features an adoptable animal from the Santa Clarita Valley in need of a home. The KHTS Features team travels to different rescues and shelters in Santa Clarita to meet the pets and tell their stories in hopes of helping them get adopted. First launched in August 2016, the series has partnered with seven local rescues, as well as the Castaic Animal Shelter, to showcase more than 100 dogs, cats and bunnies, and has seen 100 — and counting — adoptions so far. The series was created by KHTS Writer and Editor Melissa Lampert-Abramovitch, who has more than 12 years of experience in the animal rescue world.
