Karli Webster was officially eliminated from the NBC show “The Voice” this week, but the Canyon Country artist says she has nothing but a grateful heart for the experience.

“I am very proud of myself when I look back at the whole experience,” Webster told KHTS Thursday morning. “I’ve grown so much as an artist, as a singer and as a person. The experience really just shook me as a person and changed me so much, and I am so grateful.”
On Wednesday night’s episode, the six remaining artists from Team Miley performed songs chosen for them by their coach, Miley Cyrus, in the “Playoffs.”

Cyrus then had to make the difficult decision of cutting her team in half, choosing only three contestants to represent her team for America’s vote during the live portion of the competition, which starts next week.
Cyrus chose the 1971 country classic “Coat of Many Colors” for Webster’s Playoff performance, which Webster said she never would have expected — not only because of its country roots, but because it was written by Cyrus’ godmother, Dolly Parton.
“It’s Dolly’s most personal song,” Webster said. “I thought it was really interesting that Miley, who calls Dolly her godmother, gave me her life story to sing on the stage, so I felt kind of a pressure because of that, but I was excited to explore the country side of my voice.”
Cyrus called it the perfect song for Webster on the show, adding, “Dolly is going to be so proud when she sees Karli sing this song.”

After her performance, Coach Adam Levine said it was Webster’s best performance “by far,” and Coach Blake Shelton noted that the country genre seemed to be a natural fit for Webster.
In her remarks to Webster, Cyrus said, “I think it is about you occupying that space of this vintage sound that is very fitting for you, it’s about finding someone that’s necessary in the industry that isn’t there right now, and that’s you. I couldn’t have asked you to do my fairy godmother’s song any better.”
While Cyrus ultimately chose three other artists from her team to move on, Webster said she wouldn’t change a thing about her journey on the show if she could.

“I presented myself exactly the way I wanted the world to see me, and I wouldn’t change a thing,” she said. “I was nervous (before the Playoffs), but also very assured in the fact that it was going to go how God planned it and it was going to work out the way it was meant to.”

In the moments after Cyrus named her final artist to move on to the live shows — South Carolina country singer Ashland Craft — Webster said her happiness for her teammates helped to overshadow her sadness at being cut.
“Ashland was my roommate for the entire experience so her and I are extremely close, and I believe she deserved it so much,” Webster said. “My heart was just so full of excitement for all three of those girls, and of course it’s a sad thing (to be eliminated), but I love those girls so much that I was so happy for them.”
When asked about her thoughts on the tendency of the coaches to choose what they call powerhouse belters over softer sounding artists like Webster, she acknowledged that the show is a game, and the coaches want to win.

“That’s something I’m very accepting of. I understand that it’s a TV show and I understand that the coaches are the players in this game,” Webster explained. “When it comes down to choosing people, it’s not always who’s more talented or who’s less talented, it’s about how the coaches need to play their cards right to win.”
Since the show wrapped up filming a few months ago, Webster has stayed in touch with Cyrus via email and has nothing but love for her childhood idol.
“She will always be my coach, in her words, and she’s very helpful even now,” Webster said. “Even though she didn’t pick me, I absolutely adore her and I’m excited to continue to have her just as a coach throughout my life.”
While Webster is set to return to the USC Thornton School of Music in January to finish her degree, she has no plans to stop pursuing a career as a performing artist anytime soon.

She’s been invited to the home of legendary 70’s singer-songwriter Carly Simon — whom Webster was named after and calls one of her major musical inspirations — in Boston next month to collaborate, and is preparing for an encore concert with The Band Lexington on Dec. 1 at Wolf Creek Brewery.
Webster has also been asked to sing the National Anthem before the CIF Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinal playoff game at Canyon High School on Saturday.
“I am pursuing a music career full throttle now, that’s what I want and I am determined to make it happen,” she said. “I’m going to be taking as many musical opportunities as I can and writing as much music as I can, and really just making the most out of what ‘The Voice’ gave me and what I can give to myself.”
