KHTS Goes Behind The Scenes Of Haunted Houses In Santa Clarita: Part Three – ‘Club Fear’

KHTS is going behind the scenes of some of the top haunted houses in Santa Clarita, with the special three-part series wrapping up at “Club Fear: Twisted Manor,” which opened Oct. 25.

Club Fear’s signature clown, Rellik (“killer” spelled backwards), is returning to the Valencia haunt to terrorize attendees, who will make their way through Rellik’s Victorian-style mansion for the very first time.

“There’s always a story being told or a setting taking place, so this takes place in his house,” said Creator Jason Shields. “He discovers that you’re there and you have to find a way out.”

In addition to the eerie Victorian decor in the main house, the 800-square-foot haunt will take participants through a “torturous” basement and down into a dungeon where Rellik keeps his victims, Shields continued.

Instead of focusing on blood and gore, Shields is using his background as a college arts major and his passion for special effects and set design to create an intensely suspenseful experience for haunt-goers for the fourth year in a row.

While Shields has traditionally played the character of Rellik in his haunts, this year he is passing the torch onto his son, a sophomore in high school.

Also in recognition of his son, who plays on the Valencia High baseball team, proceeds from $5 front-of-the-line VIP passes are set to be donated to the school’s baseball program for the first time.

Last year, about 1,000 Halloween enthusiasts visited Club Fear from not only across the Santa Clarita Valley, but also from Orange County, the Inland Empire, Ventura County, and even further. Shields is expecting an even larger crowd this year due to increased publicity.

“I’m one of the few haunts that changes my maze every year,” Shields said. “Club Fear is just getting the name out there and people are starting to really catch onto it.”

In an effort to accomodate younger children, or simply those who want a less intense experience, a “PG” version of the haunted house in Santa Clarita is also set to be available without any “scare” actors throughout open nights.

“When we get enough for a group to come in for a PG, everybody backs off,” Shields said. “We want to be able to show that it’s really cool and it’s okay to be a little frightened.”

Shields described the “biggest high” for haunters as seeing the looks on people’s faces and hearing their reactions as they leave.

“They’re scared to death when they’re in, and they come out freaking out,” Shields said. “I can’t tell you the feeling when people come out of our haunt and go, ‘That was amazing,’ and, ‘I can’t believe you did this,’ and, ‘This was so awesome.’”

Club Fear: Twisted Manor, located at 23501 Clearidge Drive in Valencia, opened for the 2019 Halloween season on Friday, Oct. 25 and is set to run from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 25, 26 and 31. For more information, click here

  1. Fantastic review. You guys should go to Pumkin Jack’s Haunted house on Natalie Ln. In santa clarita on Halloween. They have a full performance going on, along with lights and a live DJ. It’s like a mini amusement park. They even do a opening ceremony when they start up around 8pm. They also do a no scare for kids on Halloween from 6pm to 8pm, then scare from 8pm to 12am. Its definitely something to check out. Especially this year they did a complete replica of Micheal Myers house inside and out from the 1978 film “Halloween “.
