Las Vegas Shooting: Santa Clarita Community Rallies Together To Raise Over $172,000 For Local Victims

In the first month after the Oct. 1 Las Vegas shooting that killed 58 and wounded more than 500, the Santa Clarita community has come together to raise more than $172,000 — and counting — for local victims through crowdfunding alone.

Residents have donated nearly $72,000 so far on a GoFundMe to support the family of John Phippen, a father of five who was shot and killed while shielding a fellow concert-goer from gunfire.

Approximately $39,000 was raised through a GoFundMe page for Dominica Zeolla, who was shot in the chest. The page has since been taken down because enough money was raised to cover all of her medical expenses.

More than $23,000 has been donated so far on a GoFundMe for Bruce “Bud” Wayne Horn, a father of three who was shot multiple times in the abdomen while attending the concert with his wife, Kaleigh Horn.

Residents have given almost $23,000 through a GoFundMe for Nathalie Vanderstay, who had to have her large and small intestines resected and her gallbladder removed after she was shot in the stomach and leg.

Exactly $11,800 was raised so far through a GoFundMe for Cesar Ranuschio, who was shot in the chest and needed extensive surgery to remove shrapnel that had lodged itself in his heart.

Nearly $3,000 has been donated so far on a YouCaring for Sgt Andrew Dahring, a former Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy and current Frosh football coach at Saugus High School who was shot in the shoulder.

Residents have donated a total of $1,200 so far on a GoFundMe for Gloria Aguirre, who will need multiple surgeries to repair a broken bone in her shoulder and fractures in her leg and hip after she fell and was trampled while escaping the gunfire.

In addition to these crowdfunding campaigns, a number of fundraisers have also been held throughout the Santa Clarita community in support of local victims, and the nonprofit Santa Clarita Coalition is continuing to collect donations that are given directly to local victims in need.
