L.A. County Sheriff Says No Tickets Will Be Issued For Trick-Or-Treating On Halloween

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated that officials with the Sheriff’s Department would not be issuing tickets to trick-or-treaters this Halloween season after public health officials prohibited the activity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a Facebook Live session on Wednesday, Villanueva was asked if deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would be issuing tickets for children who decided to trick-or-treat this Halloween.

“No we will not,” he answered. “We’re going to leave that alone.”

Villanueva’s response comes less than 24 hours after the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a release stating that trick-or-treating would not be allowed within Los Angeles County due to concerns arising from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Public Health walked back on the restrictions Wednesday saying trick-or-treating is “not recommended.”

Among activities prohibited this Halloween are gatherings or parties with non-household members and carnivals, festivals, live entertainment, and haunted house attractions.

We want parents to practice some common sense,” Villanueva said. “By the time that October 31st rolls around, let’s see what the conditions are at that time, and if there’s some type of trick-or-treating that will be permissible then that will be up to the public health experts on that.”

County health officials have permitted the following activities for the 2020 Halloween season:

  • Online parties/contests (e.g. costume or pumpkin carving)
  • Car parades that comply with public health guidance for vehicle-based parades including:
  • Drive-by events or contests where individuals dress up or decorate their vehicles and drive-by “judges” that are appropriately physically distanced
  • Drive through events where individuals remain in their vehicles and drive through an area with Halloween displays
  • Drive-in events where individuals can receive a treat bag (limited to commercially packaged non-perishable treats) or take away items from an organizer while the participants remain in their vehicle
  • Halloween movie nights at drive-in theaters (must comply with the public health drive-in movie theater guidance)
  • Halloween themed meals at outdoor restaurants (must comply with the restaurant protocol)
  • Halloween themed art installations at an outdoor museum (must comply with the public health museum guidance)
  • Dressing up homes and yards with Halloween themed decorations

As of Wednesday, 249,859 positive cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed within Los Angeles County since testing began back in March. Just under 6,100 COVID-related deaths have been confirmed, and 936 were currently in the hospital.

  1. Happy Halloween!! We will be trick or treating with neighbors! ?? The one holiday we wear masks and gloves and usually keep distance from others outside our group.

  2. Thank you Sheriff Villanueva. You stood up and they backed down. Now if we can get more officials like you we can eliminate this ridiculous mask wearing.

Signal what is up with the stats regarding Covid19. If you are going to quote numbers show what it really means. What percent of those “positive” test died of COVID-19 .002%. We had more deaths from Corona viruses in the past. You should have given the total population in LA County 12,447,000 with positive test .002% that means you have 99.998% chance of not contracting the virus. Deaths vs total population. 00004%. So IF you do contract the virus, you have a 99.99996% chance of serving the virus.

  3. Newscum will read about this bit of civil disobedience to his dictatorial rule and ban the sale of candy throughout the state. Plus, he’ll have Antifa out in force hurling Molotov cocktails at any child they see in costume.
But thank you LASD for being on our side. Gives me hope that when the tyrant orders you to round people up for “internment camps” you’ll refuse.

  4. OHHHH NOOOOO Alice will be mad this cant happen now everyone will catch the virus

  5. Sheriff Villanueva said we’ll see how things look by Oct. 31 and see what’s permissible. Sounds reasonable. He in no way is pushing back and saying mask-wearing is ridiculous, at least not from my understanding of this article.
A sheriff is on everyone’s “side,” in the best interest of the community, right? Let’s be nice.

  6. The change to Standard Time was moved to last Sunday in October a few years ago. This messed up Halloween, voting. imho.

  7. Thank you LASD for using common sense in this. Let the parents decide what is right…most have that ability and appreciate the trust you show in this decision. Also many kids no longer trick or treat except to friends and neighbors or church get togethers.

  8. Hey, if you’re all so stupid, go ahead and do your thing! Hope your kids get the virus, bring it home to you, and you die a terrible painful death! After all, there’s NO CURE for stupidity! I’ll be laughing at you while I tell you there was nothing to worry about! Stupid people are better off dead! Then the rest of us don’t have to deal with that! It’s amazing how many people have sh*t for brains! Sad, really.
