Assemblywoman Christy Smith Announces Inaugural Speaker’s Appointments Workshop

Santa Clarita residents looking to make a positive difference in the community can apply to become an appointee for the Speaker of the State Assembly on a board or commission and weigh in on a multitude of issues, officials said Wednesday.

Individuals can be appointed to the California Arts Council, California Transportation Commission and the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence Governing Board, among other leadership opportunities, according to officials.

A full list of speaker appointments can be found here.

To aid the application process, Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, is inviting members of the community to the inaugural Speaker’s Appointments Workshop in the 38th Assembly District.

“I am pleased to host my first Speaker’s Appointment Workshop, in partnership with Speaker Anthony Rendon,” Smith said. “The workshop is an excellent opportunity for civic engagement and the chance to enrich the lives of all Californians. I encourage everyone who is interested in advancing our community to attend this workshop.”

The workshop is set to feature panelists to speak on the best practices for applying to state boards and commissions.

“The ability to help shape California should be a partnership between everyone,” Smith said. “At the cornerstone of our government is community involvement and participation. It’s been an honor to serve the 38th Assembly District, and I look forward to serving with you.”

The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 18 at the Santa Clarita City Hall Council Chambers. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 a.m. for registration, and the program is scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

“California needs quality leadership that reflects the rich diversity of our great state,” Rendon said. “I thank Assemblymember Smith for hosting this workshop so residents of Santa Clarita can learn about the many opportunities to make a difference through service on state boards and commissions.”

Residents can register for the event online.
