Cali Lake RV Park Reaches Agreement With County, Residents ‘Will Not Be Forced To Relocate’

Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced Tuesday that residents at Cali Lake RV Park in Canyon Country will not be forced to relocate or become homeless after an agreement was reached, officials said.

The agreement the supervisor arranged was between the park owner and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, according to Barger’s office.

“The agreement we arranged allows RV tenants to remain on-site and not worry about being displaced,” Barger said. “My team has reached out to Assemblymember Christy Smith’s office to see if we can achieve a similar arrangement with the state.”

Although the park owner has numerous alleged violations on the property, including illegal dumping, illegal grading and exceeding the number of RVs allowed by the current Conditional Use Permit (CUP), the owner is expected to be allowed to process a new CUP while he resolves the violations.

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is also expected to meet with the owner of the RV park.

In June, the HCD inspected the park and found 96 spaces being used, according to Alicia Murillo, spokesperson for the state housing agency.

The previous local use permit and HCD authorized only 21 mobile home lots and 26 RV lots with drains, according to Murillo.

In August, the park was re-inspected and no corrections had been made, according to HCD officials.

“The park is still using all unpermitted lots and utilities,” Murillo said. “The park also contained trash and debris. Notice of Violation was issued ordering removal of unpermitted construction.”

A notice of violation gives a minimum of 60 days to fix violations, according to state housing officials.

“HCD will continue to work with the owners to make sure the health and safety codes are followed to protect the health and safety of the residents,” Murillo said.

County representatives are set to host an onsite meeting with RV park tenants on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. to share the current status of the site and next steps.

  1. Hey Ms. Barger,
Why don’t you free up some of the billions of dollars collected by way of stupidly voted in sales tax for the homeless and help this owner to be compliant with all the government restrictions so his tenants will have a place to live and not become homeless?

    • Mark, you should know she was against this tax. Shouldn’t some of the blame be put on the owner. The CUP is very specific so he knew what he was doing when he violated its terms.
It looks like Barger is trying to help him get through this for the homeless. In other words she is teying to fix a problem the owner created.
