Congressman Garcia Votes Against Impeachment Of President Trump

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, voted against impeaching President Donald Trump Wednesday after legislators accused the president of endangering  “the security of the United States” in the wake of last week’s assault on the U.S. Capitol.

On Wednesday, Garcia voted against one article of impeachment against President Trump that ultimately passed 232-197, with four Republican abstaining.

“In Congress, my priority is working to advance commonsense, bipartisan policies that improve the lives of Californians and all Americans and help to safely open up our businesses and get employees back to work. The only way we can do this is to move forward together as one nation,” Garcia said in a statement after the vote. “With only a few days left in the Trump Administration, the vote to impeach the President is no more than political theater that runs the risk of further dividing us at a time when we need to come together. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to stop playing political games and start advancing good policy solutions.”

The impeachment effort is the second to pass against the president in the past 13 months, and comes a week after hundreds of pro-Trump protestors gathered in front of the Capitol, with many breaching the doors during Congressional session and clashing with police.

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you’ll never take back our country with weakness,” Trump told the protestors at a rally prior to the incident. “You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”

Lawmakers argue that Trump’s rhetoric leading up to the incident at the nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6 “gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government.”

“(Trump) threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government,” the impeachment resolution reads. “He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

The attack on the Capitol came the morning that Congress was scheduled to vote to certify the electoral college results, officially naming Joe Biden as President-elect, which Garcia also voted against.

“Americans have a right to free and fair elections. We must remember, the Presidency belongs not to Congress, it belongs to the American people. However, when threats of fraud arise regarding the results of the election, per the laws written in the Constitution, America’s elected Congressional Representatives must ensure that any uncertainty is resolved,” Garcia said in a statement at the time. “My objection to the electoral votes of two states was not in an attempt to overturn the results of the election, it was to fulfill my duty to protect the rights of the men and women of California’s 25th District who elected me to serve them and stand up for their rights.”

Congressman Garcia Votes Against Impeachment Of President Trump

  1. Not “political theater’ Mikey. It’s a statement made in response to a violent attempt to overthrow the government and disenfranchise voters in two states, neither of which contain our 25th district, incited by the president. Where and at what point does your ‘common sense’ you mention kick in? Resign.

  2. total no balls Republican cuck.

  3. I condemn the violence that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. I am even more disgusted by the double standard used by the Democrat politicians and the media who were silent over the violence from BLM and ANTIFA’s domestic terrorism for year 2020. Those anarchists caused over $1 billion in damages to private and public property across the U.S., and.resulted in over 30 people getting killed. Did the media condemn this violence? Of course not, they are the Democrats propaganda machine.

Watching Pelosi and Squad spew their verbal diarrhea towards the President is nothing new.

    • And yet for all of the finacial damage that BLM and “anarchists” perpetrated, none of them tried to overthrow the US Government. Take your indignation back to Parler.

      • BLM and “anarchists” attacking the WhiteHouse and forcing the President into the bunker is not an attempt to overthrow the governmentt? Keep your indignation on Twitter. Anonymous you are a coward.

        • Donald Trump disbursed peaceful protesters for a photo op. They didn’t force him into a bunker. John Mulaney and Mitt Romney were there and emerged unscathed. And I’m far from a coward, and I don’t live my life exclusively on social media. You appear to be anonymous too. I have lived in SCV most my life as a woman and a minority. I just may see things the majority culture doesn’t. I know the racist history of this area and I know how the Sheriffs treat brown people here. You know jack about me.

    • OK, Rufus, let’s have a little chat-

      1. It’s Democratic, not the pejorative term Democrat Party you always use as an insult. You know better, right?

      2. Your complaint regarding the media is easily alleviated by switching off FOX and OAN. I saw many in local as well as national media not only decrying the violence that followed some of the mostly peaceful demonstrations but pointing out the difference between rioters and people speaking truth to power; a concept that has escaped you.

      3. Without the brave leadership from House Speaker Pelosi and Democratic support for justice under the US Constitution we would now be living in an autocratic state. Is that what you want?

Your respectful response is welcomed. Think you can do that?

    • Really you do condemn what happened and you’re more disgusted about the double standard. I’m more disgusted that Trump Terrorists KILLED a COP at Our US Capitol!

    • Rufus: Your claim that Democrats were “silent” about BLM riots, is untrue. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/08/13/fact-check-democrats-have-condemned-violence-linked-protests/3317862001/ What is true? Trump is the most dishonest president in history. Trump was not silent about the insurrection against the US Capitol, after waiting a good amount of time he tweeted in a video: “You have to go home now.” “We love you, you’re very special.” We love you? To insurrectionists? I’m sorry but this is significantly worse than anything that happened with BLM. But yeah, “financial damage.” Like money is all that is important. How about TRUTH?

And Congressman Garcia, your support of Trump at this stage is all I needed to know that you are not aligned with your constituency and should not have been given the honor to represent us.

  4. Of course he did, he’s been a Trump sycophant from day one. Garcia AGAIN fails in his Constitutional duty to protect and defend our democracy from enemies both foreign and domestic. On January 6, 2021 Trump incited a violent insurrection and failed coup against our nation. Garcia like a good Nazi, falls right in line and FAILS to condemn Trump and the actions of his crazed, armed and dangerously unhinged supporters. Six dead, countless injured, property damaged and our nation’s foundation shaken to its core and still Garcia fails to act. Good luck in the future Republicans trying to call yourselves the party of “law and order” or claiming the American flag and patriotism as belonging solely to your party; what we ALL witnessed was DOMESTIC TERRORISM. Your lame attempts to disavow any culpability for what has happened over the last four years is as disingenuous and insulting as your calls for “unity” today.

    • Good point Star regarding Republicans claiming the American flag and patriotism solely for them. If I see a flag on a house or car now I can’t help but think of it as some sort of dog whistle and what sick nativist thoughts may reside within, the same thinking of those who stormed the Capitol. Really a shame I feel like this, but it’s the truth. I’m sick of these pseudo-Patriots thinking they own the country.

      • Yep, Republicans have successfully claimed the flag for their own views and see everyone else as anti American. I reflexively recoil now when I see the flag because I associate it with racism and authoritarianism.

  5. Poor Mikey left his courage when he retired from the airforce. Maybe they never taught him that there are three branches of government and that the Executive branch orchestrated an attack on the Legislative branch with the intent to usurper the will of the people. Mikey had to listen to his seditious pals Devin Nunes, McCarthy and the rest of the seditious caucus. Disdainful. Resign.

  7. I am ashamed that Mike Garcia chose to ignore that he won this district by only 333 votes, and that this district also overwhelmingly voted for Joe Biden in a free and fair election. This is a PURPLE district, not a deep red one. Multiple cases were brought before the courts who found NO merit in any of the spurious charges of election fraud, including no proof that could stand legally. Audits and recounts verified. All you had to do to take a “common sense” approach was to do your job and certify this election. To not vote to impeach a President who incited a mob to siege our seat of democracy? To not impeach a President who couldn’t bring himself to condemn the insurgents as it happened, but waited a week to say he condemned the violence? To compare this to BLM protests this summer is simplifying it to the point of ridiculousness. One MAJOR difference here – the domestic terrorism that was perpetrated on our Capitol, on our very Democracy, was incited, encouraged and done because of the lies told over and over by the President of the United States. No President in our history has ever done that FULL STOP. For this reason alone, impeaching this President is a vote for decency, and posterity. Mike Garcia will go down on the wrong side of history and I can’t wait until we can vote him out of office in 2022.

  8. Funny how the part where President Trump said “march peacefully and patriotically” was omitted from the quote. Thank you Congressman Garcia for not caving to the mob and not voting to impeach our President when the proof is there that the violence started before President Trump even started speaking and was initiated by paid agitators. I understand that you folks do not let the actual facts enter into this conversation since your hatred of Trump is greater than your ability to be fair. I can tell you that the Republican Party without President Trump and with traitors like McConnell and McCarthy as “leaders” just committed suicide. I will remain to support Congressman Garcia but will never support the “party” again under those so called leaders.

    • Berta, do you actually think Trump had NOTHING to do with the insurrection? No matter when he spoke that day those action are the results of an unhinged President, QAnon and other far right extremist. Yes, he completely fucked over the whole Republican Party while he was at it:

In the end, Trump cost Republicans the Presidency, The Senate and the House. The son of a bitch actual did it. He made America great again.

      • I listened to what President Trump said. He has NEVER called for violence against the Capitol, never nor did he that day. How is he responsible for what paid agitators did unless he is paying them? Especially when they started their mayhem BEFORE he even started speaking! President Trump did not cost Republicans anything since they made gains in the House and state offices even despite massive fraud. Republicans lost the Senate because traitor McConnell and others were too chickenshit to say they wanted more time so a signature audit could be performed in Georgia. Candidates Loeffler and Purdue waited until election day to say anything which is why thousands of Republicans in Georgia stayed home. Voters knew those candidates were both feckless cowards and the election fraud was continuing unchecked so why bother to vote. McConnell and McCarthy have made a fatal mistake by turning against us and voters will make them pay. Democrats have started their revenge and purge but will find it is not that easy to erase us. I am ashamed of what my country has become, just one more corrupt mob ruled country.

    • Berta I’m not sure who or what “mob” you’re referring to, but the one atop everyone else’s minds is the one that just killed a cop and tried to overthrow our government. Maybe use a different choice of words?

    • Amen me too Roberta!! Well said.

    • Berta: Please tell me, is there any president who has more documented lies and falsehoods than Trump? I’ll wait. And feel free to reference presidents with two terms if you need to.

  9. Not my senator. Biden/Harris 2024!

  10. He had no dog in that race with respect to voting against the Electoral Certification. He is suppose to be representing his district in CALIFORNIA. How does voting the way he did…“protect the rights of the men and women of California’s 25th District who elected me to serve them and stand up for their rights.”?

I call BS!!! He was just following party lines and he chose to not do what was right! Bad start already! SMH…

  11. PS….WEAR YOUR MASK ? INSIDE THE CAPITOL BUILDING!!! EVER HEARD OF ‘LEAD BY EXAMPLE’??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️

  12. Please tell us the mail and calls you received were in line with your vote.? People who voted FOR you asked you to vote for impeachment. Is the how you authentically represent us? You are not even representing the republicans who voted for you. At least that way your hypocrisy would not be so flagrant.

  13. Typical remarks by the ever tolerant and peaceful Democrat/liberal/progressive. Gotta love the cancel culture party. The party of love, peace, tolerance ?same old tactics. Flood the comment section with nonsense CNN propaganda.

  14. Disgusting. Weak. How could he do this after graduating from the Naval Academy and retiring from the military. He clearly ignored how un-American his dear leader is.

  15. Trump tried to do a coup of the USA so he can be King Trump. Glad he was impeached again. Sorry Garcia you are wrong to say he did nothing wrong with destroying the Capitol with his rioter followers. NY already dumped all contracts with Trump and Trumps rape trial continues after the 20th in NYC. Along with other lawsuits for him.

  16. To top it off he was sitting next to and chatting with that avowed conspiracy theorist wacko Marjorie Taylor Greene. Not a good look.

  17. I find it telling that one argument to justify the Capitol Riot, is that “BLM was bad.” But what is not recognized is one of these things was protesting racism and police brutality, while the other was protesting Democracy.

Consider the outcome if each attained the goal which started the protests. On one hand, BLM wanted the police to stop the systemic violence/killing people of color. Meanwhile, the protest at the Capitol was mainly to overturn the election at minimum and at worst was to kidnap, do harm to our representatives and foment revolution. Let that sink in.

Make no mistake, this is not to justify the violence. ANY violence committed against innocents is terrible, even when done in the name of a just cause. But causes are important.

The cause of overturning and delegitimizing of American Democracy because the outcome hadn’t gone their way was not limited to the horde that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday. This was also the cause for which many Republican legislators had gathered as well, intending to upend the Electoral College process.

We all saw protesters with Molotov cocktails, a guillotine, guns, nooses, zip ties, spears, knives and pipe bombs, replacing the American Flag with a Trump Flag and threatening to hang Mike Pence and shoot Nancy Pelosi in the head. They trashed the Capitol, defecated in offices, broke windows and doors, beat and killed a police officer. No, this was no light protest.

To be fair, I have seen some conservatives view these events as an occasion for truly mature reflection, and I commend that.

Sadly, Mike Garcia, a brand new Representative, is more concerned with pandering to the Republican leadership and party members, minimizing the horror and ignoring the very real threat that these actions represent to our Republic.

Insinuating that a vote for impeachment will fan the flames of unrest? Please. Saying you want to advance bipartisan policies that improve the lives of Californians is utter hypocrisy at this juncture. Impeachment in the 11th hour isn’t “political theater,” it means that the very real threat that Donald Trump represents will never, ever return to haunt us.

    • So many OA, emotionally unstable Liberals responding! It’s always the white devil Trump, Trump, Trump with hyper exaggerated collusion by the big Media 24/7! Remember all the demonic mayhem caused by BLM/Antifa/Liberals? Most swept under the carpet by the colluding Liberal biased lying Big Media’s! And now, even more censorship of freedom of speech by Big Tech—-good ole 1984!, we thought it could never happen here, but subversive socialists, communists are very tricky to the easily fooled sheeple! May God have mercy on all, especially the brainwashed sheeple!

  18. Does anyone see the double standard and the lies from the media? It is right here.

    https://twitter.com/RealCandaceO/status/1349040265974214660?s=20

    • Really Rufus? Candace Owens is batshit and only says the craziest things so she can get PAID. She’s beyond debunked. But now that we all know where you get your information from, there’s no use, you and Berta are way too far gone. May God Help you both. Garcia Resign! Peace out!

      • Lou-ser: You’re another deceitful Liberal trying to keep the black people down, enslaved! The Liberals don’t Really care about them, or, any of us, only for the votes!! Why have the Liberals allowed the murders, robberies, beat downs and mayhem to proliferate for so long?! If they really cared, they’d tell the ACLU, BLM, Jackson, Sharpton, Farrakhan, NAACP to screw off, and with all their ill received $$$$ they extort , they could really make a change! Damn Godless Liberals!

        • Oh Ricardo at it again with his religious righteousness. Ask yourself Ricardo, what would Jesus do? Try turning the other cheek for a change. I know JC certainly would not have stormed the capital.

      • Well she does it to get the attention, she has married quite well and is not driven by the money. She has that same need, like Ann Coulter to just have everyone talking about her even if it is all hate. She usually assess a hot topic and then seems to think “what can i say that will grab every websites attention and make this about ME!”

She feeds off the hate. At least those types usually end up (as Ann is now) pushed aside and ignored because they are no longer useful. She has such contempt for black people and women and it’s sad because while the men are using her, they also know she’s a joke.

  19. Garcia, you’re spineless. As a servant of the the people, you should be voting for the people not the party! trump incited the Neo-Nazis, white Extremists, & extremists to go into our Capitol, The People’s House, to do damage & harm people! He violated his oath of office many times over & violated the constitution & you were on the opposite side of justice. Blood is on your hands also. You are NOT concerned about we the people. Try being an American over the damn party!

  20. Thank you Mike Garcia for voting against this ridiculous move by desperate corrupt politicians

  21. Good. While I’m no fan of Trumps rants I listened to his speech not once did I perceive his words as go attack. Trump is pro-America 100%.
    Was the election stolen? Probably
However I look at it this way .. if the democrats have nothing to hide they would have said yes let’s investigate fully and do it publicly.

  22. Thank you Mike! You are a true patriot and I will campaign for you even harder in your next election! We will win again as long as we can combat the rampant and blatant election fraud that our president faced in this election.

  23. Really Chris? RAMPANT BLATANT fraud? 60 court cases and nothing! Recounts in multiple states. Even Trump-suck Bill Barr said no fraud. Just get over it already. You’re making damn fools of yourselves! You’ve already made us fools in the eyes of the rest of the world.

  24. And yes, it’s that thinking and people like you that contributed to the mayhem and death at the Capitol. Thank you very little.

  25. Why don’t you all read the constitution instead of coming on here crying placing false charges because you got your soy boy emotions built up by CNN because you are all thought-shaped programmed trolls. It’s really sad!A congressman doesn’t vote on emotion, he votes on if there is bribery, treason, and high crimes and misdemeanors. After reading the transcripts, none of those happened. It’s all semantics, and after looking at all the film, it looks like your commie antifa played a major roll by wearing maga gear. Will you see that on the corporate media, no, they have their fake narrative, and unfortunatley, you ill-informed irrelevant people’s emotions up! Wah Wah Wah, cry me a river!

  26. A new political party has been born. After all he has done, if you still support Donald Trump, you are NOT a Republican! You are a TRUMPLICAN!!!!

  27. Trump should be impeached because he preaches strength, yet wasn’t strong enough to totally shut down the country for 2 weeks to stop the spread of covid. This half-assed approach is what has caused way more problems. It’s hypocrisy to say you are the strong leader. No-mask-wearing ex-president is what he ended up being.
