Congresswoman Katie Hill, D-Agua Dulce, held a community swearing-in ceremony at the Saugus Forum Saturday, where a diverse group of individuals spoke about their relationship with Hill.

Hundreds of people from across California’s 25th Congressional District came to the Saugus Forum Saturday morning to witness Hill’s community swearing-in ceremony.

“My official swearing in was back in January, but today is the day that counts,” Hill said in a Facebook post right before the event. “I am so honored for the opportunity to fight for you, every single day.”

For some, Hill’s election was the result of many long hours spent on the campaign trail: making phone calls, knocking on doors and engaging with the community.

“I am proud to be a part of this,” said Carla Young, a Fellow for the Katie Hill Field Team in the Antelope Valley. “I know that Katie will continue to be an important figure in this movement, who will be influential in creating a more diverse and transparent government.”

For others, Hill’s victory in the 2018 midterm election brought immense pride, as was the case for Frank Ferry, who was working at Saugus High when Hill was a student there.

“Anytime you’re a teacher and your kid does well, it feels good,” Ferry said, fighting back tears of joy. “This past week I was watching the State of the Union, and there’s Katie in her beautiful white outfit. I just swelled with pride.”

That pride was not limited to just former teachers of Hill.

“She’s been fearless since the day she was born,” said Katie’s mother Rachel Hill. “When she was four, she told us that she was going to be the first female president, and I still don’t doubt that.”

For one girl, Hill has not only been an inspiring role model, but a good friend.

“Katie is my best friend,” said Addison Rivera, a young girl who was diagnosed with B–Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. “On my birthday in the hospital, she FaceTimed me, and on Halloween she came to my house, and on election day she ate mac-and-cheese with me.”

While the day was full of smiles, laughter and celebration, Hill knows that she will need to maintain her momentum in order to achieve the changes and goals she set out for herself during the 2018 campaign.

“I hope you all took some time since November to rest up, because the change we all fought for is still going to take your energy and effort,” Hill said. “At every turn, in every battle, I need you there with me. So let’s celebrate today, and then let’s get back to work.”

  1. I liked her until she felt the need to come out of the closet with her personel fetishes we didnt ask she shouldn’t have told us. Ever since i have been sad we voted for her and feel she is no role model for our young children at all.

    • How exactly what she does in her personal time affect your life Will? How does that affect what she does in office? Maybe, just maybe, worry about what you’re doing in your life and stop caring about what others do. As long as she’s not hurting anyone, then she gets to do whatever she likes in life….Just like you.

    • One Trick Will- This is the fourth or fifth time you have mentioned this. What’s your problem?’
As a suggestion, put your homophobia behind you and try thinking rather than allowing your ‘feelings’ to rule you. We are faced with many issues like climate disruption requiring thoughtful answers; not emotional outcries. In other words, grow the hell up!

  2. Is she going to disavow her friend Ilhan Omar’s comments or do we just assume that silence = agreement?
