Congresswoman Katie Hill To Face Democratic Challenger In 2020 Primary Election

Congresswoman Katie Hill, D-Agua Dulce, has gained her first Democratic primary challenger for the 2020 election, as self-described “Progressive Democrat” David Rudnick has filed to run.

On Sept. 11, Rudnick filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for Congress in California’s 25th Congressional District, according to documents from the FEC.

“I am running as a Truman-JFK Democrat,” Rudnick said in an interview Monday. “The Democrat party has gone in a different direction, and I want to take them back to the roots.”

A Lancaster resident and business owner, Rudnick is a “lifelong nonprofit volunteer and human rights activist,” according to his campaign website.

Rudnick said he has been “disappointed” with Hill’s time in office during her first year, prompting him to take action and run for Congress.

“I did originally support (Hill),” Rudnick said. “Kaite Hill is not being a true-blue Democrat. If elected, I would impeach President Trump.”

Originally born in Pennsylvania, Rudnick grew up in South Carolina, where he eventually worked as the deputy director for Cherokee County during Senator John McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign.

“I am proud of my work with the McCain campaign in my early youth. He was an honorable man,” Rudnick wrote on his website. “What could have been if Sen. McCain was elected over George W. Bush, particularly in regards to how the War on Terror & Iraq were handled as, both conflicts were completely mismanaged at the minimum.”

Upon graduating high school, Rudnick received admission to the Corps of Cadets at the University of North Georgia and later served in the United States Marine Corps.

Rudnick’s platform includes environmental policy reforms, impeaching President Donald Trump, cutting government spending and scaling back on military “policing” across the globe, according to his website.

Rudnick is the first Democrat to oppose Hill for the 2020 election in a race that has already seen four Republican candidates announce their intent to run, with veteran Mike Garica, Sheriff’s Sergeant Mark Cripe, and Lancaster City Councilmember Angela Underwood-Jacobs still in the race.

A pro-life candidate, Rudnick said he sees himself as a unique voice for the 25th District, the Democratic party and the country as a whole.

“I am a different type of Democrat,” Rudnick said. “There is room in the party for change.”

  1. ” If I were elected i would impeach Trump.” Really? You gonna do that all by yourself, David?
Last i heard Katie Hill has reserved judgement pending outcomes of some ongoing investigations.
She has also been a proactive congresswoman in leading, not just taking up a space and dedicating monuments.

As a former McCain supporter that indeed proves you to be a “different type of Democrat”.
Also, as a friendly suggestion, you may want to upgrade your wardrobe just a bit there, pal.

  2. He has my vote. I agree with alot of what he says.

  3. My question is this, Mr. Rudnick: What gives you the right to determine a woman’s right to determine her own destiny? How many non-aborted children have you adopted? Also, do you provide regular monetary and otherwise support to children’s orphan homes and shelters for orphans? Until you have done any one of those things, shut up and sit down sir. And if your going to “say” you make donations, I want physical proof of that fact because otherwise you’re just talkin’. You, as an ol’ white man (and yes, I’m white) will never have my vote! YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS OVER A WOMAN’S BODY AND IT SHOULD NEVER BE A POLITICAL ISSUE….EVER! UNLESS WE TOO CAN SAY YOU MUST HAVE A VASECTOMY! Considering your attitude, maybe you should have to have one of those!

  4. One would expect a Democratic Party candidate would know there is no such thing as the Democrat Party. “Democrat Party” is a term used by Republicans as an insult to members of the Democratic Party.
