Democratic Party Leaders Join Pro-Choice Rally Following Overturn Of Roe

High profile local members of the Democratic Party joined a pro-choice rally in Santa Clarita Saturday afternoon.

Congressional candidate Christy Smith, California State Assembly candidate Pilar Schiavo and Santa Clarita Valley Democrats Chair Andrew Taban spoke to attendees of a pro-choice rally at the intersection of  McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard in Santa Clarita Saturday, just one day after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“I know for the past — what feels like — 6 years, we have been going through the destruction of our rights and liberties… and you are exhausted,” Taban said, addressin25g demonstrators through a megaphone. “I am too.”

On Friday, the Supreme Court released a ruling overturning the landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, allowing each state to decide whether to allow abortions.

“Already, I’m talking to families who are seriously considering not having daughters apply to colleges in those states where abortion has been outlawed,” Smith said. “We know it has a severe and significant economic impact to women when they are forced to carry a pregnancy to term that they can’t afford.”

Abortion bans are currently in place in several states. The procedure is expected to remain legal in California for the foreseeable future.

“We know that in the end, this is not the end of abortion for all women,” Schiavo said. “It’s the end of abortion for women who are poor and who are women of color. Women who have the money to fly somewhere and get an abortion, they’ll be able to do it.”

  1. “We know that in the end, this is not the end of abortion for all women,” Schiavo said. “It’s the end of abortion for women who are poor and who are women of color. Women who have the money to fly somewhere and get an abortion, they’ll be able to do it.”

Can someone please inform this card carrying member of mensa genius mastermind that you do not need to buy a plane ticket and a weekend stay at 5 star hotel to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. It’s actually very simple for 99% of people. Just use a contraceptive!!!! Going to the Dr. to get your uterus vacuumed out is not a contraceptive. That’s an abortion. A termination of something that’s already started by definition. I’m not even 100% anti-abortion but these people are lunatics. When did abortion become as nonchalant as running an errand? If you do not want to get pregnant you and your partner (if you’re in a relationship and you alone if you’re not in a relationship) should be taking steps proactively to make sure that doesn’t happen. Also what the h does being a women of color have to do with affording a plane ticket. So tell me just how Blatantly Racist are you and how often do you spew your believed stereotypes out? SMH seriously and they want to elect this person?

Now another thing, who exactly organizes these protests all the time? It doesn’t ever look like a spontaneous community reaction anymore. It looks more like it’s been industrialized and run with the efficiency of a corporation. Are these protestors getting paid? If so by who? If not how do they live? You can’t protest 3 weeks a month and hold down a job. Are they all YouTube stars? I doubt it. the thing that really got my attention about the crowds of protestors this time around was how many gay and proud protestors there were. Which listen I don’t care if someone is gay. That should be their business and theirs alone. Which apparently that’s not the way that works anymore apparently every single person on the planet needs to be made aware of their sexual orientation before they’ll find some “peace” or “justice” or something? Don’t really know. But my point is, has anyone also explained to these gay protestors unwanted pregnancy is not really something they need to worry about affecting them? These people are professional protestors and someone is funding them.

    • No one is funding these protesters. We are not professional protestors; we are members of the community and are exercising our right to peaceful assembly. You should look up the First Amendment, read it, and fully understand it before you make such outlandish and ignorant claims. For you information, I was there along with neighbors, friends family and community members. The community members who responded, were from all demographics: women, men, late teens, children, gay, straight, young and old. There was Republicans as well as Democrats out there, angry, scared and confused by an obviously politicized, illegitimate Supreme Court that decided to overturn legal precedent, ignored legal standards and threatened the fundamental right to privacy by dismantling Roe v Wade. The abandonment of five decades of legal precedent undermines the rule of law. This is not how our judicial system works.

The right to reproductive autonomy is a fundamental human right and is inextricably tied to womens progress in our country. Without freedom over our bodies, women now lack full control over other aspects of their lives. This is not about a temporary inconvenience. The overturning of Roe v Wade means some states have laws in effect that require a woman endure a pregnancy in cases of rape, incest, or when her life is at risk. Let me repeat that, a state may require that a woman die rather than risk the life of the fetus. What type of country do we live in and what type of government do we have that requires forced childbirth?

I know you live in an insular world, under the false assumption that real world issues that don’t matter to you or affect you personally don’t matter, but you are wrong and I don’t know what’s worse your foolishness, arrogance or ignorance, but in reading your rant, it’s obvious it’s a combination of all three.

      • “The right to reproductive autonomy is a fundamental human right…”

There you go again, typical liberal “it’s a right if I _say_ it’s a right.” But no it isn’t. “Reproductive autonomy” is just a flowery euphemism for murder.

Not a single state has or is contemplating a ban on abortion in cases where the mother’s life is in jeopardy. Claiming otherwise is a flat-out lie. But, I would expect nothing else out of you, Alice.

The best part of the recent SCOTUS rulings is watching you liberals having sobbing, screeching, temper-tantrum breakdowns. This warm feeling of schadenfreude will last me until the Red Tsunami in November followed by Gropey Joe’s impeachment in January. But the absolute best will be President Trump’s inauguration in January of 2025.

        • No actually the best part of this year will be seeing Trump and his entire family, Eastman, Giuliani, Bannon. Clark, Powell, Jordan, Taylor Greene, Gaetz, Brooks, Gohmert, Biggs, Perry etc., turn on each other, be indicted and imprisoned for inciting the riot on 1/6, obstructing a federal proceeding (blocking the electoral count) and conspiracy to defraud the Unite States (organizing fake elector slates of “alternative electors.)

        • Haha sort of like the redneck GOP wannabe flak jack wearing republican rednecks when you heard you may have your gun rights taken away? Sound familiar? You care more about a lifeless set of cells (per Genesis in your little Bible BTW) than you do the living humans on earth.

    • Contraception along with sexual equality are now on deck for rights being taken from us in this right wing extremist movement toward becoming a Christian theocracy. It’s like the American version of Sharia Law.

  2. What rights or liberties are taken away? You live in California, it’s a state’s right issue under the 10th amendment because a right to an abortion is not in the constitution. But, it was okay to force people to take an experimental drug, which is still experimental by the way, nice try Pfizer. You Democrats hate the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and now the 10th amendment. You are the totalitarian corporate party, you are responsible for every major inner city looking like a 3rd world. Start owning your failures, and I will add, I’m not endorsing the other party, the CAGOP is just as spineless as the left.

  3. Scrapping the bottom of the barrel

Seems kind of pointless to sweat your a$$es off protesting in SCV especially since its legal in CA . Its 2022 and safe sex has been around for a long time , perhaps start practicing it or wait until you are ready for a life long commitment . Bunch of cry babies that don’t want to be held accountable for their poor life decisions and want the govt. to pay for it. I’m not talking about rape, incest or a pregnancy gone bad that had to be aborted to save the mom. That to me is commonsense but in 2022 our country lacks a lot of it . If you don’t want to send your daughter to a college due to a risk of pregnancy then I think you have bigger problems on your hand. Perhaps spend that money on parenting classes or therapy for your kid.

    • You almost make sense but you should widen your focus. Sure, women had their rights to reproductive freedom Nationally until some states took them away. Now look what has happened nationally. In the highly unlikely event of CA suddenly turning red we can say goodbye to those and other rights we may be taking as granted and written in stone. We need to and will be heard.

  4. I’m sure a lot of men will be upset about this. Women are easy now. You can have sex with them for free, you don’t even have to marry them. But then men are confronted with those females and tell them to get an abortion so men don’t have to support them. If you’re in California, don’t worry, its easy to bash babies heads in here. I’m not against having it done right away but waiting to almost full term then deciding to get rid of it is cruel.
It should be up to the states not unelected judges. Personally I think there should be a vote on it in each state. I don’t remember people rioting when Roe v Wade was passed. Plenty of people were upset but nobody took to the streets and caused damage then.

    • “Easy” women have always existed. You write like in the “ good ol’ days” it was different. When Roe vs Wade passed you may not have seen protests because it was seen as a success by the majority of people. It’s a freedom.

  5. I’m just happy to see you all out there fighting for Body Autonomy and the right to make our own decision about our body. GONNA USE THAT THE NEXT TIME THE GOVERNMENT, OR EMPLOYERS FEEL THE NEED TO TELL ME WHAT MEDICATIONS I MUST PUT INTO MY BODY. Thanks! My Body My Choice. Thanks for making our arguement FOR us.♥

  6. Think of the bright side, if you want a brown eyed baby, once it’s born without brown eyes, make it comfortable, then kill it———a Liberals Utopia as they smoke a joint!

  7. Your hate must be affecting your health.
