Candidates for the 38th Assembly District have raised nearly $200,000 in the last quarter of 2019 and January, according to state filings.
Suzette Valladares, a Republican candidate for AD-38, led all candidates in fundraising in the fiscal fourth quarter with $85,969, according to filings with the office of the California Secretary of State.
The Valladares campaign outraised the next closest candidate, Democrat Kelvin Driscoll, by more than $60,000.
Driscoll was able to bring in $22,728 in total in Q4. Including January donations, that total climbs to $38,426.
However, Valladares also leads all candidates when including January contributions as well, with $93,274.
Valladares has likely benefited from appearing to be the only Republican candidate in the field to have filed so far. Lucie Volotzky had also announced her intention to run as a Republican, but has not shown any contributions as of Friday.
On the other side of the aisle, five Democratic candidates have each received contributions so far, averaging just shy of $16,000 each.
In addition to the total previously mentioned for Driscoll, candidates Brandii Grace brought in $15,489, Susan Christopher raised $11,504, Dina Cervantes received $9,745 and Annie Cho had $4,835.
Christopher’s donations came almost entirely in the week following the initial announcement of her candidacy, however she has since dropped out of the race.
