Mike Garcia Raises $3 Million In Latest Quarter, Christy Smith Raises $1.3 Million

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, raised over double the amount of Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, in the latest quarter of fundraising for the CA-25 seat, their campaigns said.

In Quarter 3, which is July 1 to Sept. 30, Garcia raised $3.18 million, with Smith raising $1.34 million in the same period for the 25th Congressional District race, according to statements from both campaigns.

The deadline for filing to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for the quarter is Oct. 15, which provides details on the contributions, according to the agency.

Garcia won the May 12 special election for CA-25 with about 54.9 percent of the vote, and both candidates are set to face-off once again in November for the full 2021-2023 term.

In previous fundraising cycles, Smith raised over $3.4 million bringing the total to about $4.8 million, with Garcia raising $4.2 million before Q3, for a fundraising total of about $7.38 million, according to FEC filings from Jan. 1 to June 30.

Smith’s campaign says the candidate “does not take a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists, meaning that her war chest is the summation of grassroots momentum.”

“I’m so grateful to everyone who chipped in and supported our efforts to flip CA-25 — thanks doesn’t even begin to cover my deep appreciation,” Smith said in a statement. “With every dollar, we are making it clear to my opponent that our community needs greater access to health care, better jobs, support for public education, and an actual plan to deal with COVID-19 recovery. The voices of everyday people need to be heard in Washington. Let’s send this out-of-touch multimillionaire businessman packing.”

Out of the nearly 18,000 unique contributions, educators topped the list as most common donors, according to Smith’s campaign.

In contrast, Garcia’s campaign said the fundraising totals show the donors want a candidate who advocates for conservative tax policies.

“These numbers show that Southern California families have had enough of liberal politician Christy Smith and her massive tax hikes and prefer Mike Garcia, who remains an objective voice fighting for lower taxes,” said Lance Trover, Garcia campaign spokesperson in a statement.

After the FEC filing deadline on Oct. 15, additional details on the contributions are expected to become available. A more-detailed fundraising story is set to be published to highlight information on individual donors.

Both Smith and Garcia are set to go head-to-head one more time for the next full Congressional term on Nov. 3.

  1. I guess Soros is too busy trying to get Gascon elected to send Christy any money……

  2. Congressman Garcia, We are with you 100% and wish you the greatest success in November.
God bless you and your family. Roy Hermann

  3. Got our vote, Mike??

  4. BIG BOLD LETTERS Mike raised more than Christy—I guess the Liberals are suggesting there’s something wrong with that!? What deceitful tricks will the Liberals come up with next!?

  5. I’m sorry you are voting for someone who raises his money from Super PACs who fund untruthful ads and slicks—it seems that many people have forgotten that they were taught not to lie when they were growing up.

I guess none of you have read the letter from the teachers referenced in the ads and slicks. No one lost their job and school board members receive a stipend that nowhere covers the amount of time they spend working at home to become knowledgeable about the issues being discussed at the board meetings and attending board meetings that sometimes last until midnight. Garcia claims she’s a long-time career politician. I didn’t realize being an Assembly Member for two years equals a career politician. School board positions are not political positions. According to Garcia, that makes Steve Sturgeon a career politician with 21 years as a member of the Hart school board as well as John Messina a career politician with 11 years as a board member.

Christy is for the people and is supported by the people — not Super PACs.

Garcia voted against: Condemning unwanted and unnecessary medical procedures on individuals, The Heroes Act, Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act of 2019, Condemning All Forms of Anti-Asian Sentiment as Related to COVID-19, Equity and Inclusion Enforcement Act of 2019, Strength in Diversity Act of 2019, Defense, Commerce, Justice, Science, Energy and Water Development, Child Care is Essential Act, Child Care for Economic Recovery Act, Moving Forward Act (reauthorizes funding for highways, transit, motor vehicle safety, research, hazardous materials, and rail programs of the DOT), Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act of 2020…… I bet you like that he has been endorsed by the NRA, a nonprofit organization being sued for corruption by the New York Attorney General.

He is a Trumpette and will not vote on anything that supports CA 25 issues if Trump says no or his Republican buddies vote against it. He is, unfortunately, part of the swamp.

What are his positions on healthcare, seniors, Social Security, education, etc. I guess you don’t care and those issues aren’t important to you. Have you talked with those in the middle class that had to use their children’s college funds, their savings, etc. to pay the additional taxes they had to pay = so much for a tax cut. If he is a millionaire, he doesn’t have to worry about things like that.

Maybe you don’t want someone who thinks for himself to work on behalf of CA25, I do.

  6. Judie, I care and my vote is for Christy!

I have met Garcia and listened to him speak and he is exactly what we do not need representing us.

    It’s not a party issue, it’s a moral one

  7. Keep up the good work, Mike! We need more leaders like you.

  8. Garcia is a liar and a LOSER! Cristy actually CARES about people! Honestly, Judie said it all! She is right! There’s nothing I can add that she didn’t cover! A Trump mini-me, he needs to go DOWN like his mentor will! Vote Christy, if you haven’t already! Don’t be fooled by Garcia’s BS! Look carefully and you’ll see it’s true!

  9. Mike is a great patriot who loves this country and our town. He has my vote again!

  10. Anyone who can pull 9gs and not black out is exactly what we need right now.

    • Yeh, that’s the kind of thinking that got us such a great president, isn’t it? Such shallow thinking is the new disease in our country, and why things are so fuc#*+ up now! Like I always say, ‘there’s no cure for stupid’! ?
