Over 3.8 Million Votes Cast In Los Angeles County Election, 600,000 Still To Be Counted

In an election update Wednesday, officials with Los Angeles County announced there have been over 3.8 million ballots that have been received, and an estimated 618,200 to be processed.

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) published the first election result update since the announcement of the semi-final results on Election Night and provided the total number of outstanding ballots left to be counted.

“The total election results count is now 3,382,543, which is 59.2 percent of eligible Los Angeles County voters,” reads the official statement from the county. “The preliminary estimated number of outstanding ballots to be counted is 618,200.”

This estimate includes Vote by Mail ballots, Conditional Voter Registration ballots, and Provisional ballots at the Vote Center. See estimates below:

    • Vote by Mail ballots: 520,000
    • Conditional Voter Registration ballots: 87,000
    • Provisional ballots: 2,000
    • ballots: 9,200

These results and estimated number of outstanding ballots left to be counted will be Countywide totals, according to the RR/CC.

The RR/CC also published the Statement of Votes Cast from Election Night that reports results broken down by precinct, community, and district.

“The RR/CC will continue to accept Vote by Mail ballots that are postmarked by Election Day and received through Friday, Nov. 20,” reads the official County statement. “These ballots are not included in the preliminary estimate.”

All outstanding ballots are verified before being tallied. These numbers will adjust throughout the Official Canvass Period as ballots are received, processed and tallied, according to RR/CC officials.

“Counting votes does not end on Election Night. The RR/CC makes sure all ballots cast are counted,” according to the Registrar’s office.

California state law requires the RR/CC to complete and certify results within 30 days of election day.

Along with the announcement of the additional ballots to be processed, it was announced the next update of election results would be released Thursday, Nov. 5.
