The campaign for State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, continues to lead in terms of cash on hand despite Democratic challenger Kipp Mueller raising nearly $90,000 more than the incumbent over the first half of 2020.
Between the months of January and June, Wilk raised $279,818.65, while his Democratic challenger raised $369,510.97.
“I am grateful for the outpouring of support from so many people who believe that our community is ready for an independent voice who will fight for access to quality health care and housing people can afford, and to uplift our middle-class,” Mueller said. “The momentum is inspiring, and makes me hopeful that we will soon have a representative who works for the people, not the special interests.”
Despite being out-fundraised over the first half of 2020, Wilk’s campaign still leads in terms of cash on hand by over $400,000, with his campaign having $542,508.05 in ending cash as opposed to the $141,993.61 in ending cash that Mueller’s campaign reported.
“I am going to be fully funded,” Wilk said. “(Mueller) is going to need every dollar.”

Wilk attributed the fundraising gap to his focus on assisting constituents during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that Mueller “should be apologizing” for fundraising during this time.
“I canceled three events in the spring when California was on lockdown. California is dying, and I didnt feel it was appropriate,” Wilk said. “I was doing 50 calls a day to constituents asking if they need any help for COVID.”
The two are set to square off at the ballot box in November.
