Garcia Co-Sponsors Bill Aimed At Protecting Americans With Pre-Existing Health Conditions

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, has co-sponsored the “Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act of 2021,” which aims to ensure that Americans with pre-existing health conditions “have guaranteed access to quality coverage and are not excluded or required to pay more due to their health conditions.”

Garcia joined nearly three dozen other Republican legislators in the House of Representatives in co-sponsoring the bill.

“We need to ensure that patients with pre-existing conditions are protected – this is something we can all agree on,” Garcia said in a statement Wednesday. “I am committed to ensuring that Californians in the 25th District, and all Americans, have greater control over their health care. We need to do more to provide Americans with quality, affordable choices when it comes to health care.”

The “Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act of 2021” was introduced on Friday by the House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a representative from Washington.

“Every single American deserves access to affordable health care coverage, including those with disabilities and other pre-existing conditions,” Rodgers said in a statement at the time. “This bill ensures those with pre-existing conditions have guaranteed access to quality coverage and are not excluded or required to pay more due to circumstances that are out of their control. We need a health care system that expands the choices for all Americans, brings down costs, and gives people greater control over their health and their future.”

While the actual text of the bill was not yet available as of Wednesday afternoon, the “Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act of 2021” had been referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Labor.

The full bill can be found here once the text is released.

  1. Ummm, that’s great! But isn’t that called The Affordable Care Act? Aka Obamacare… that Republicans have voted to kill more than 50 times?

  2. Garcia isn’t giving anybody anything. Protection in regard to preexisting conditions was first given under Obamacare. Trump and Republicans stripped Obamacare of many provisions, including pre existing conditions, which Biden is now restoring.
If Garcia will lie about the validity of the election, and laugh with the insurrectionists, I guess he will lie about anything, including covering pre existing conditions.
Shame on Garcia, he should resign.

  3. Isn’t this already covered in the Affordable Care Act?

  4. This is a good bill. No matter what side of the brick wall you are on.
Lets see a liberal with the cojones say something good about it.

  5. Here’s the text from the bill (uppercase words are my highlighting key words):

To amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit application of pre-existing condition exclusions and to guarantee availability of health insurance coverage in the individual and group market, CONTINGENT on the enactment of legislation REPEALING the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and for other purposes.

In the real world one might call this a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

    Nope, no thank you.

  6. How dare you woke holes say something against a POC! It’s always been to cover-up, protect, lie, condone, spin, downplay anything negative about/against POC!?! That’s one of the reasons we have constant festering problems in societies, the excusing of reality/facts/truthes.
