Garcia Discusses School Re-Openings, SCV Politics Live With KHTS

On Wednesday morning, Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, spoke with KHTS live on air about national politics and issues affecting the Santa Clarita Valley.

National political issues, such as the recent COVID-19 relief bill and school re-openings, were discussed by Garcia on air Wednesday morning.

“This two trillion dollar package that we just voted on, I voted against,” Garcia said. “It was on the heels of a similar trillion-dollar package that we voted on in December.”

The congressman added that he had pushed for $2,000 stimulus checks for individuals making less than $75,000 per year, but that it had been left out.

“This most recent 1.9 trillion dollar package was more of a boondoggle,” Garcia said. “It was more of a dedicated earmark to programs like building tunnels in Pelosi’s district, bridges in New York. It wasn’t really aimed at COVID relief.”

Garcia also discussed his own additions to the recent stimulus package discussions.

“What I tried to do was introduce an amendment which is effectively a copy of my first bill, HR202, which is a removal of the state and local tax or SALT deduction limits,” Garcia added. “Unfortunately we’re in a world right now where it’s all very partisan politics and if you’ve got an R for Republican next to your name, Nancy Pelosi is simply not allowing these bills to get voted on.”

The interview moved to the topic of Santa Clarita Valley schools re-opening.

“This is obviously near and dear to me as a father of two boys,” Garcia said. “This Re-Open Our Schools Act is an effort to make any COVID relief to schools contingent on reopening those schools. For instance, it would make two-thirds of the 54 billion dollars that was in this last package for K-12 education conditional on the state working to have kids go back to school.”

Garcia also discussed the recent landing of Perseverance, the NASA Mars spacecraft, which had the remote helicopter Ingenuity on board.

“I’ve been an advocate for aviation and space my whole life,” Garcia said. “We have the opportunity to have a gentleman by the name of Bob Balaram who is actually the guy who invented the helicopter that will be flying in the atmosphere of Mars here in the next couple weeks.”

The Congressman described his beliefs on the spacecraft and what it means to the U.S.

“It’s a unifying force rather than a divisive force,” Garcia said. “We’ve seen enough division in our country, so it’s very cool to be at the center of this.”

The interview finished with Garcia’s comments on the coming weeks.

“We’re going to be talking about election reform and we’re going to be talking about the COVID relief package still as it comes back from the Senate for another vote from the House,” Garcia added. “My commitment is to make the constituents of the 25th district my priority.”

  1. I doubt that he even read the Bill. More partisan gaslighting from Garcia

  2. Mike Garcia (Q-CA) You are an obstructionist stay in your office and watch how the democrats govern

    • Berta González-Harper

Democrats govern? Or destroy the United States of America? You call opening borders to all illegal aliens regardless of health and safety issues, giving away tax payer money to foreigners while citizens suffer, destroying energy independence and jobs, keeping our economy on free fall, allowing boys into girls locker rooms, starting wars, hiding from the public, and generally ruling like a communist dictator governing? God help us. Mike is doing a good job working within the morass of Democrat idiocy.

    • You mean govern by Money Laundering. Okay!

  3. Hey Jim, what do you call good governing? A COVID bill for nearly 2 trillion $ where less than 10% goes to the people that need it?

Our kids and grandkids and further on will be paying for this. Nice governing, huh?

  4. Jim is a delusional excuser, not wanting the best for all Americans! Look at the degeneration/chaos/violence allowed by the demonic Liberals have caused/condoned from Seattle to LA, Chicago, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Kenosha, Philadelphia, Detroit, NY, etc.(area code 666). All by the Liberals and their voted for administrations!

  5. Great to see Garcia is still talking out of both sides of his mouth. Happy to see him complain about the political divide he works so hard to maintain. He still pushing the republican loser line about election reform to fix the non existent campaign fraud. Way to continue to lie to your constituents Mike! Especially when you haven’t taken responsibility for uour part in the Jan 6th uprising that left six people dead. And that bridge you helped veto..in a republican district that Trump put on the drawing board. Mike Garcia is a liar, a con man and a embarrassment to his state, district and family. If he had any integrity he would have resigned by now.
