Garcia Helps Give Out Nearly 200 Toys To Foster Care Kids

Saturday, Congressman Mike Garcia, R- Santa Clarita, joined his team of 25 volunteers to help give away around 200 toys to kids in foster care.

Around 200 toys were given away to children in foster care this weekend by the ‘Foster Unity’ nonprofit, thanks in part to Congressman Garcia and his team of 25 volunteers.

“Not everyone is lucky enough to be surrounded by friends and family during the holidays, but our local kids in foster care deserve to have an incredible Christmas,” Garcia said. “So many of these kids have very little, and it was great to see Team Garcia bring some Christmas cheer to some of the most vulnerable in our community. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to lend a hand to those in need this holiday season.”

The team working alongside Garcia worked as part of Acton-based non-profit Fostering Unity and their Winter Wonderland holiday event, according to organizers.

Fostering Unity is described as a non-profit working to improve outcomes for children in foster care by providing education, support and resources to caregivers.

“After holding a toy drive and collecting nearly 200 gifts from over 50 members of the CA-25 community, Garcia’s volunteers delivered and distributed those toys at Fostering Unity’s annual Winter Wonderland event,” an official with Garcia’s office stated. “The event also gave kids the chance to meet Santa, play in snow and experience a drive-thru holiday light show.”

This weekend’s toy delivery capped off a year’s worth of ‘Saturdays of Service’ led by Garcia and his team of volunteers, according to Garcia’s office.

After about a dozen events, Garcia’s team was able to donate 3,000 lbs of food to local food banks, give away hundreds of care packages to veterans and law enforcement officers and donate 20 pints of blood to ease local hospital shortages, according to Garcia’s office.
