Gascón Recall Petition Approved, Signatures Needed To Place Recall On Ballot

A second petition to recall controversial Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has been approved, with over 500,000 signatures needed by July before a recall election can take place.

On Thursday, the L.A. County Registrar approved a second campaign to recall Gascón, who has come under fire for policies that opponents say are “pro-criminal” and “anti-victim.”

“We are sick and tired of living in the pro-criminal paradise Gascón has created,” said Desiree Andrade and Tania Owen, co-chairs of the Recall District Attorney George Gascón campaign.  “Gascón turned his back on us, and now his policies are destroying Los Angeles County right before our eyes and needlessly creating more innocent victims.”

Opponents have argued that Gascón’s policies result in shorter sentences for violent criminals and that his $0 bail policy has allowed criminals to be released from jail hours after being arrested.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva and Representative Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, have both been vocal opponents of Gascón’s policies.

Aired on Monday, Dec. 27, Garcia’s call for Gascón’s resignation came after the rollout of the D.A.’s Restorative Enhancement Diversion for Youth (REDY) program which allows minors who commit felonies to move from incarceration and into rehabilitation.

“(This program is) a continuation of really this theme that he’s got of trying to take care of the criminals before he’s trying to protect the law-abiding citizens,” Garcia told Fox News. “This effectively takes minors who have committed very serious felonies out of the court system before they’re even charged and gives them an opportunity to go into this restorative rehabilitation program.”

Villanueva has been one of Gascón’s more vocal opponents, and has shown support for the movement to recall him in the past.

“The public was hoodwinked by electing him, and now we definitely need to get him out of office because he’s going to cause someone to die if he hasn’t already,” Villanueva said.

The effort follows last year’s campaign to recall the district attorney, which fell short of collecting the signatures it needed to collect by the Oct. 26 deadline to make a recall election possible.

“Unlike the initial recall effort, the new recall committee gathered substantial resources before the 160-day period for signature collection began, including over $2.7 in contribution,” representatives for the recall said. “This is critical given the substantial number of signatures required, the cost of signature collection, and the short time frame.  Instead of constantly playing catch up with resources, this effort is starting out ahead of the curve.”

Organizers now have until July 6 to collect 566,857 signatures from Los Angeles County voters and submit them to the L.A. County registrar to have a chance at putting the recall up for vote.

The recall campaign is set to hold several petition signing events across Los Angeles County this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the events is slated to take place at Newhall Park in Santa Clarita.

  1. He has to go….

  2. Wish I lived in la so I could sign. He looks like such a dope doesn’t he?

  3. Ga$$hole needs a midnight ride to South LA, with Alice.

  4. He, like all Progressives, use catchphrases like “reimagined” and “reform” to describe his “technology” based approach to criminal justice. Doesnt that sound great? What he means is there are no bad people that ever need to be incarcerated, especially if they came from his native land. He was clear about that in San Fran and nobody down here did their homework to see what was coming. We have to maintain an informed electorate or we will keep getting well funded Progressives like this in key positions where their religion dictates no incarceration ever and mental illness roaming the streets.

  5. Let’s get him out this time! He is doing untold damage to everyone.

You have to live within Los Angeles COUNTY and all cities within to sign the Recall Petition.

  6. “…like all Progressives..” implies that people who want to make PROGRESS in our system think & talk the same. Is anyone who isn’t a Progressive a Fuddy-Duddy who wants to go back in time to the “good old days” ? No. There is a wide range of ideas and word choices.
    Ponder that.

    • Oh Flo. “Progressives” is a marketing term. It’s to capture empty heads into voting left. It’s for those that don’t read, not informed, and generally clueless. I hope you’re happy with all of this “progress”. New ideas like not prosecuting crime? LOL my 11 year old son knows better than you. What a shame for you. I pray this is a wake up call for you to turn off CNN and read some good books.

    • Flo are you a cartoon that gets drawn up everyday?possibly an algorithm?.There’s no way your a real person and if so you have to be in your late 80s no one under that would ever use fuddy duddy in a sentence.Your logic and reasoning says you must’ve been a leak in the payroll however you tried to make a living when you weren’t living off others.

  7. Flo, Catch and Release is NOT progress.

  8. I was using the term Fuddy Duddy to intentionally describe a person who resists new ideas and new information. The past is looked upon as a time that was better than today. This person doesn’t accept original, progressive ways that could improve his or her life, and instead is fearful.

  9. Heavy Flo, Ya, look at the “Progressive Improvements “ of rampant crime, increasing gas/foods, etc.!?!? We have a so called Vice President & soon to be automatically voted in Supreme Court Justice, “just” because of color//gender because of “Regressive’s psychosis”. MLK would & is rolling over in is grave from what the Liberals are degenerating in all societies! Wake up, not Woke up & Stop Condoning Bad Behaviors!

    • Is renewable energy an evil concept? Consider that some smart ideas bring progress.
I’m not condoning bad behavior at all.
PS Was the Carousel of Progress at Disneyland a horrible thing because it showed where PROGRESS has brought us? Ha ha Let’s not get hung up on one term, “progressive.” Do you approve of “forward-thinking”?

  10. Sign the petition to catch and release Gasshole!

  11. Just like the failed Newsom recall, this will serve no purpose other than to waste taxpayer money.

  12. Tom Thumb up the A$$, the Sheeple spent millions electing that treasonous demon, so let the decent people spend more to help bring back the rule of law & true punishment! You, Alice in Wonderland, Heavy Flo, Ann believe in misleading words like “progressive “ which equals Condoning with tender minded bleeding childish heart Naivety, which Is Regressive & Not Progressive, despite your attempted spin of Weasel Words!

    • I didn’t say anything about Gascon’s policies or being “progressive”. I just said it’s a waste of money. You’re so easily triggered that you read things that aren’t even there.

I know you don’t care about wasting taxpayer money considering you’re probably just collecting social security at this point, but those of us who work and contribute to society don’t want our tax dollars being spent on frivolous political stunts to soothe you baby boomers (emphasis on baby).

      Go take a nap.

      • It will be money well spent to restore Law & Order. You are a nattering nay-bomb of negativity, detached from the problem of compromised DA ruining LA County.

  13. He/it looks like Dennis the Menace, sounds like Elmer Fudd & behaves like Satan! The petition: Recall DA George Gascón.com

  14. Gasshole has done one excellent job: Uniting Los Angeles County citizens against him!

  15. Gasshole needs hair dressing;
Dep, LALooks, super glue, Brylchream, lard, beef tallow, Popeyes Chix Grease. Lucas White Lithium Grease.
    And a comb.
