Gov. Newsom, who previously held the title of lieutenant governor under Brown, took the oath of office on Jan. 7 alongside his family in Sacramento.

“Every dream depends on the dreamer. It’s time for us to renew the dream for our new generation,” said Newsom during his inauguration speech.

During his speech, Newsom outlined his goals for the upcoming administration, bringing the crowd to their feet in support of his plans.

“What we do today is even more consequential because of what’s happening in our country. People’s lives, freedom, security — they all hang in the balance. The country is watching us. The world is waiting on us. The future depends on it,” said Newsom.

Previously, Newsom served as the 42nd mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. He was also the 49th lieutenant governor of California since 2011.

“I had the opportunity to spend several years with the governor while he was Lieutenant Governor and I was in the state legislature,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem Cameron Smyth. “He is an honest person who cares deeply about the future of California. I would also hope that he draws on his time as mayor of San Francisco and resist the continuing effort of removing local control from cities and counties.”

In 2015, Newsom announced he would begin his campaign for governor in the 2018 elections, according to the secretary of state.

During the Nov. 6 elections, Newsom faced off against John Cox, taking 61.9 percent of the vote, with Cox receiving 38.1 percent.

Newsom grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Redwood High School in 1985. He went on to attend Santa Clara University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 1989.

  1. This is the last nail in California’s coffin. Be prepared to give up at least half of your paycheck because of this lunatic.
