Assembly Bill 2098, (AB 2098) was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom this week which now makes it a crime for doctors to express any information to patients that is anti-vaccine for COVID-19.
AB 2098 designates the dissemination of misinformation or disinformation related to the SARS-CoV-2
coronavirus, or COVID-19, as unprofessional conduct, according to the bill text.
The bill will punish anyone in the medical profession who speaks out against COVID-19 medical consensus. This includes any professional who advocates the early treatment of COVID-19 with any protocol other than treatments approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC).
The California State Medical Board would be allowed to punish physicians who spread misinformation or disinformation regarding COVID-19 and its treatment options.
This despite numerous well-documented studies throughout the world that prove alternative treatments, when administered early on during an individual’s outbreak of COVID-19, has eliminated the need for hospitalization.
“As George Orwell wrote in his iconic book, 1984: ‘No one can get up much enthusiasm for a government which puts you in jail if you open your mouth.’ (This) bill, while purportedly well-intentioned, appear to be the first step on a slippery slope to government censorship,” said Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, in a previous KHTS article.
AB 2098 was authored by Assemblymember Evan Low, D-AD 28.

Why vote if Newsome can just do this on his own? Shouldn’t the voters have a say?
They voter have no say. Newsom will do whatever he wants to do. In 2016, California Proposition 62, the Repeal of the Death Penalty was not passed by the vote of the people. Newsom overturned that vote and mandated the repealed the death penalty. In 2020, California Proposition 25, Replace Cash Bail with Risk Assessments was also rejected by a vote of the people. Newsom and the Democrats also decided to overturn that vote and mandate zero bail.

You would expect the same professionalism from your doctor if you were diagnosed with any serious disease. The California state medical board has the authority to penalize doctors for unprofessional practices,It is meant to protect the patient.

I rarely choose to post comments, mostly because the majotiry of posts are cheap shots and not written with the goal of having a civil discourse with others. I am fortunate to have more worthy endeavors to pursue and will continue to spend the majority of my time with those endeavors. So does this now mean that even if a patient chooses to go another route with their treatments, they too are forced to do only what the CDC recommends? Health care is hardly health care anymore. We go to the doctor now and have them decide for us what is best for us, not because of any medical knowledge they actually have or obtained from experience, but simply because the CDC had tied their hands. Your complaints are not about Democrats. They are about Covid. Sorry you had such upsetting experiences. I don’t believe that there was a greater conspiracy going on. There was a shortage of ventilators that forced doctors into making hard decisions. We had poor federal leadership (Trump) and governors all across the country were trying to get supplies and help their states. Drug companies were scrambling to develop drugs and acquire a vaccine. It was such a horrible situation.
Now that more people have been vaccinated, we have fewer deaths.

A doctor is more likely to give you treatment based on his or her medical education but you can research or go elsewhere to explore options.The American Medical Association (founded in 1847) exists to promote the betterment of public health, the CDC is another entity & there are many more. The Medical Board licenses doctors. There’s nothing wrong with
the expectation that they would require doctors to follow the proven science relating to Covid and not zany anecdotal results from Average Joe. Go to a nutritionist, an herbologist, a chiropractor, an accupuncturist, a lady at Whole Foods who sells supplements! Do what you like and stop being surprised that doctors have rules.
I think the important point is the important issues are not put before the voters, they are simply passed by the mostly if not all Democratic legislative bodies, then put before Newsom to sign off on to make him look strong.
