The United States Senate voted to temporarily reopen the government Friday, ending the longest government shutdown in history.
The Senate approved a bill — without the $5.7 billion for border security — to reopen shuttered government departments for three weeks until Feb. 15.
President Donald Trump announced the deal Friday in a press conference in the White House Rose Garden.
“I am very proud to announce we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” Trump said.
While the bill approved by the Senate did not include border security funding, Trump vowed to continue the conversation until the Feb. 15 deadline.

For 35 days, the partial government shutdown caused an estimated 800,000 federal employees to work without pay.
“This is the right call,” said Kassie King, spokesperson for Katie Hill, D-Agua Dulce. “For over a month, government workers have not been getting paid.”
King noted that Congress can “get to work” on legislation to permanently open the federal government.
“Now the real negotiations can start,” King said. “There’s real compromise that is needed on border security.”
Hill’s spokesperson said she is ready to accommodate a new deal, adding “nobody is going to get exactly what they want, but that doesn’t mean we can’t compromise and negotiate.”
For the first weeks since Hill was sworn into office, reopening the government has been a priority, King said, after the House of Representatives approved a bill on Jan. 3.
“This has always been Katie’s no. 1 priority,” she added. “Now the real work can get done.”

Thankfully this five week nightmare deliberately inflicted on our own government workers is over.
The adults in the room have prevailed over the toddler and his tantrum. What an absolute act of meanness it was though, to have taken our own people hostage to use as bargaining chips. The shutdown, owned by Trump, has cost more in money than the wall would have, not to mention the human suffering inflicted by the one who is sworn to protect and defend all of us, we the people of the United States of America.

As usual all the Reps on this list can do is call others names. No productive discussion. Too bad. I tried to listen to both sides during all of this and heard some really good suggestions, especially from the Rep from TX, former CIA that voted against Trump’s plan.
Democracy works when discussion occurs. Name calling never fosters discussion. So my conclusion is that those that use name calling (including T) and intimidation, don’t care about democracy. I do. I wish others would so that we don’t lose the very basic tenants of our government.

Aren’t we all just so happy that Katie Hill stopped the government (unscheduled paid vacation) shutdown. She seemed to dominate all of the news networks with her bright ideas of getting workers back to their jobs. Maybe now she can get them to actually do some work. Surprisingly she still has a lot of energy left to negotiate for new border security that will keep illegals secure, safe and give them a pathway to WELFARE!
“Welfare” is bad when given to needy individuals but perfectly acceptable when bestowed upon failing corporate interests like coal mining or nuclear power.

I am sure the border wall contractors are giving the government a crazy high estimate for it. they are just concrete pillars like the light poles on the streets it cant cost that much for those . we need another bid for them and we can get this wall started with the go fund me account created for it.

Let me ask you Trump fans this- How does it feel that six of his inner circle have been charged or convicted of felony offenses against the United States? Those include Roger Stone, Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, George Popodopoulos and Rick Gates, not to mention 13 Russian nationals and three companies and 12 Russian intelligence officers. And that is only the start. When a person surrounds himself with crooks, what do you think that makes him?
And just for contrast, the total number of Obama scandals is 0 (zero).
