Nearly $1 Million Raised By CA-25 Congressional Candidates During Third Quarter

Nearly $1 million has been raised by Congressional candidates vying for the California 25th District seat in 2020 during the third quarter, officials said.

Incumbent Congresswoman Katie Hill, D-Santa Clarita, led the pack with over $600,000 raised, with the nearest challenger, Mike Garcia, raising over $230,000 from July 1 to Sept. 30, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

Hill raised a total of $2.1 million during the 2020 election cycle, with the former incumbent in CA-25, Steve Knight, who raised an average of $550,000 at this point in the 2016 and 2018 cycles, according to campaign finance records.

“I am humbled every single day I get to go to work on behalf of our community, fighting for a government that is accountable to the people, housing we can afford and accessible healthcare,” Hill said. “The support from our community only continues to grow, and I will be forever grateful for their confidence.”

Garcia raised over $232,000 for his Congressional campaign during the third fiscal quarter of 2019, raising another $41,000 in the first week of October, according to his campaign.

The GOP fundraising leader took in about $525,000 in the six months since the start of his run for Congress, according to FEC records.

“The support we’re receiving for our campaign and the momentum we’re building has been truly
tremendous in the short time we’ve been in the race,” Garcia said. “Every day we add new
supporters and more volunteers who resonate with our message of fighting for freedom and
standing against the ‘socialist policies’ Katie Hill and her colleagues continue to push in
Washington. I am truly humbled and look forward to being a strong voice for this great district
in Congress.”

Angela Underwood-Jacobs raised about $23,000 in contributions during the third quarter, in addition to a $80,000 loan, bringing the total to a little over $100,000, according to FEC filings.

The third GOP challenger, Mark Cripe, has raised about $6,000 during the third quarter with no loans on record, according to the FEC.

“As the campaign fundraising numbers for the third quarter come out, the likely attention will focus on the total amounts raised,” said Cripe’s campaign in a statement. “Yet, there is far more to the story than just the bottom-line numbers. In a scrappy position for entering the months before the March primary election, the Cripe Campaign is poised to do what Mark has the experience of doing best- doing a lot with a little in the way of funds.”

The only Democratic challenger, David Rudnick, has not filed the Oct. 15 quarterly report as of the publication of this article, FEC officials said.

In total, the four candidates for the 25th Congressional seat who have filed raised a total of over $949,000 during the third quarter, with the election about a year away in November 2020.

  1. So I’m guessing Hill’s support is coming from sources outside our district. It was blatantly obvious during the last campaign how important this seat was to the Democratic Party looking at where her donors hailed from.

    • The majority of voters in our district are upset with the credit administration and the Republicans in Congress who support him.. That’s how she beat Knight. Until recently I was a registered Republican. I am no longer one and have donated to Hill. She’s the first candidate I have ever donated to.

  2. ‘scuze me…/
Hill lead the back? Pack? How about field?
Mike Garcia lead the back. Pretty far back.
