City Council Issues Vote Of No Confidence For D.A. Gascón

The Santa Clarita City Council unanimously took a vote of no confidence for Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, as several City officials believe that his actions since being sworn “risk safety of the general public.”

The council unanimously agreed to issue a vote of no confidence for the new district attorney during their regular meeting Tuesday.

“What we need to do is do something to let (Gascón) know how passionately we feel,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda.

During their previous meeting on Feb. 23, the city council requested that time be set aside to discuss the nine special directives Gascón issued within his first hours in office.

“The only way to ensure nothing happens is to do nothing,” said Councilman Jason Gibbs. “This vote is something (…) to demonstrate the serious concerns we have within this community.”

The next day, officials presented the special directives to the City Council Public Safety Committee, identifying three that they said could have “a potential immediate and detrimental impact to public safety,” which are:

  • Special Directive 20-06, which essentially eliminates cash bail within L.A. County for “any misdemeanor, non-serious felony, or non-violent felony offense.”
  • Special Directive 20-07, which directs prosecutors to decline or dismiss a series of misdemeanor charges, including trespassing, drug possession, and resisting arrest
  • Special Directive 20-08, which originally eliminated sentencing enhancements for most charges. It has since been amended to allow for such enhancements for serious charges such as child abuse, sex trafficking, and hate crimes

“The District Attorney’s Office has a legal and ethical responsibility to execute laws enacted by voters or the legislature that are intended to protect the public and uphold prosecutorial policies,” the agenda item for Tuesday’s meeting reads. “However, the Special Directives unilaterally issued by District Attorney Gascón undermine the legislative and ballot process and risk safety of the general public.”

Furthermore, City officials contend that Gascón’s directives “violate state law,” as many of the directives either undermine or conflict with previously passed legislation and ballot initiatives.

“It is of the utmost importance for the City of Santa Clarita, California, that policies that aim to restructure or amend prosecutorial directives are consistent with state law and issued with reasonable intent and priority to enhance public safety and protect the general public and victims’ rights,” the official no-confidence vote reads.

  1. Good! This guy raised property crime 37% in SF during his tenure there. He says everything is based on data, but look at his own track record data.

  2. There’s nothing in this despicable human beings resume that suggests he was an improvement over Jackie Lacey.Way to vote liberal Cali you own this one!

  3. Thank you to the City of Santa Clarita for taking this important vote. It is more important to not let the radical crime inducing Democrat party destroy our beloved city with the no jail and open borders to our country. It is believed they will lose control of the Senate in 2022, so they are desperate to destroy the nuclear family, and all Judeo & Christian values that has made this country great.

  4. Mark, John & Rufus, Truthful/accurate decent words well spoken! Why are the demonic Liberals so hell bent on tearing down all decent societies like they’ve done from Seattle to LA, Chicago, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Kenosha, Philadelphia, Detroit, NY, etc.?! Newsom’s on the way, next will be Gas-Con & Garrshity for recall/impeachment!

  5. I can tell you why the liberals want so much crime: They want people to be desperate and dissatisfied enough to allow Democrats to outlaw guns and install a fascist police state. This is exactly what their ilk did in Venezuela.

  6. Well we did it! Newsom’s Recall WILL be on the November Ballot! THIS guy is NEXT!

  7. Good and the Demonic Liberal Gas-Con & Garrshity are next!! Thanks Liberals for what you’re doing to our once wonderful country!

  8. Wow what a bunch of hateful people on this thread. You deserve eachother. Stop with the fear mongering. No one is getting recalled in this blue state.

  9. Yu, yes normal humans hate evil, deceitful Liberal people who are allowing terrorizing innocent people! Newsom will be gone because of his lazy, careless behavior towards decent Americans and disgusting Liberal Gas-Con is next! By the way a person /state with Blue blood means lack of oxygen in the blood leading to mental confusion and Red blood means fully oxygenated, meaning mental acuity/awareness (smart)!

  10. Yu when Yu get your next stimulus check Yu can take the morally deficient Gas-con job and Newsom out to lunch.Make sure to ask if there’s more stimulus checks on the way to pay for the next time as well…

  11. We vote no
Gaskin is a lawless person and does should not be holding public office .
