Planning Commission To Discuss Housing Project For Single Mothers On June 15

The Santa Clarita Planning Commission is set to meet Tuesday over Zoom to discuss points of local interest and hear from the community.

The meeting which is scheduled for Tuesday 6 p.m. is expected to take place over Zoom, according to officials.

One scheduled point of discussion Tuesday evening is the proposed building of a new housing structure by Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley.

Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley provides support and resources for local homeless or borderline homeless families and pregnant women. In a non-COVID time, they partner with local faith-based institutions and churches to provide food and shelter, and currently have only their Transitional Home in operation.

To further the growth and reach of Family Promise in Santa Clarita, they have proposed the building of an over 6,000 square-foot transitional housing center for pregnant and single mothers in need of help, according to officials.

This single-story building is proposed to be built on Newhall Avenue within the Community Commercial zone in the City of Santa Clarita.

The Planning Commission is scheduled to receive the staff’s report, open the public hearing and receive testimony from the applicant and public, and then review details of the proposal.
