The Santa Clarita City Council voted to approve a pre-annexation agreement that would transfer over 700 acres of open space to the city’s control.
During their meeting Tuesday, the Santa Clarita City Council discussed a pre-anexxation agreement to acquire additional open space in Valencia, as well as received an update on the plan to address local homelessness.
The pre-annexation agreement, between the City of Santa Clarita and BLC Tesoro, LLC, would be accompanied by a management agreement to transfer approximately 770 acres of land to the city’s control.
Among the land included in the pre-annexation agreement is approximately 770 acres of open space for dedication to the City, with 712 acres initially and 58 acres in a future dedication, according to City documents.
“I am thrilled for the people that live in the existing Tesoro to finally come into the city that they have wanted to be annexed into for a very long time,”said Mayor Laurene Weste.
Along with the residential neighborhoods included in the annexation is the historical Tesoro Adobe, the home built and owned by noted western film actor, Harry Carey, in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
In order to continue with the annexation process, City staff is coordinating with Los Angeles County and LAFCO to have the annexation of the Tesoro del Valle community to the City completed in November 2022, according to City documents.
In addition to the Tesoro Highlands pre-annexation, the Santa Clarita City Council also heard a presentation on the 2022 Community Action Plan to Address Homelessness.
Previous accomplishments in the 2018 Community ction Plan included creating safe drug disposal locations at the SCV Sheriff’s Station and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, as well as encourging the development of multiple on-site wellness enters at school district across our Santa Clarita Valley, and more.
Like the 2018 plan, the new Community Plan identifies key actions items to be facilitated by four subcommittees: 1) Advocacy and Coordination of Resources, 2) Direct Services, 3) Housing, and 4) Prevention, according to City documents.
Upon approval of the City Council, staff will meet with the Task Force to finalize the new Community Plan and move forward with implementation
The next City Council Meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuedsay, June 14 at 6 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council Chambers. To watch Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, click here.
