Santa Clarita City Council Extends Ban On Development Of New Drive-Thrus

The Santa Clarita City Council moved to extend the ban on development of new drive-thrus until January 2021 on Tuesday night.

During the regular City Council meeting, the public was invited to voice their concerns over safety regarding the development of new drive-thrus.

Jason Crawford, planning and economic development manager for the City, addressed the Council regarding the applications in effect for the new development for business with drive-thrus.

One such location, Chick-Fil-A, has withdrawn their application to enter the site of the former Boston Market location, according to Crawford.

“There are two Starbucks in the Canyon Country area, they have supplied the City with a queuing analysis of their drive-thru and reviewed by city staff,” Crawford said. “And found to meet the standards and those two Starbucks are able to move forward.”

Businesses are still able to submit applications for the development of new drive-thrus, and may be able to be approved pending approval by city staff, Crawford added.

Following Crawford’s comments on the matter, the Santa Clarita City Council moved to extend the ban until Jan. 14, 2021 with a unanimous vote.

Santa Clarita City Council Extends Ban On Development Of New Drive-Thrus

  1. I sat Chick-Fil-A should be able to have a drive thru at the Boston market Location. Star Bucks has way to many locations with drive thrus.

  2. I’m not one who thinks government should get involved in most businesses matters but this would have been a horrible location for a Chick-fill-a. I love chick-fill-a but this parking lot is already way too crowded with customers for Trader Joe’s, Best Buy and Pet Co. I’m surprised someone scouted this location and thought it would be a good idea to open a popular restaurant there.

  3. It would be really nice to know of what reason they’re not allowing businesses to grow in our city.
this is probably one of the reasons why a lot of people are moving out of the state right now and relocating to other states, rules and regulations in California is becoming a huge problem.
