Santa Clarita Congressman Mike Garcia Looks Ahead At His Second Year As Congressman

Congressman Mike Garcia (R-Santa Clarita) looked forward to his goals for his second year representing California’s 25th congressional district (CA-25) in the House of Representatives.

On Thursday, Garcia reflected on his work so far as congressman and what he hopes to accomplish in the coming year.

“My promise from day one has been simple,” Garcia said. “I will not let the disastrous Sacramento policies that have forced many Californians to seriously consider and/or leave the state be spread across the nation.”

The representative listed passing the State and Local Tax (SALT) Fairness act and putting an end to illegal marijuana grows as legislative priorities.

The SALT act would repeal the $10,000 cap on deductions for state and local taxes, which resulted in a tax increase for many middle class families, according to a press release by a congressman introducing the bill.

Large illegal marijuana nurseries were recently found in parts of the Antelope Valley, according to Garcia.

“I hope that this year we are able to put a stop to these illegal grows and deliver justice,” Garcia said. “To do so, I will fight to provide proper funding for our law enforcement and secure our border.”

When speaking about his past accomplishments, Garcia mentioned the amount of work which had accumulated in the months before his election as representative.

“Perhaps most important of all, my team has assisted over 1,000 constituents with casework, ending a months-long backlog of cases that languished due to a lack of congressional representation prior to my arrival in Congress,” Garcia said.

In the past year, the congressman also introduced the SALT Fairness Act and was a founding member of the bipartisan SALT caucus.

Stopping Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) has been another priority for Garcia.

“I have been fighting against the careless and excessive use of Public Safety Power Shutoffs,” Garcia said. “I am continuing to work to find real solutions like improving our power grid reliability and modernizing our federal forest policies.”

The representative also introduced the Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act.

“My bill would remove the employment barriers for military spouses, ensuring that they would not have to obtain new professional licenses every time a spouse received new orders,” Garcia added.

Garcia also took steps to improve wildfire detection and California’s water storage.

“Most importantly, I want to continue to help constituents with problems they are having with the federal government,” Garcia said. “I encourage my constituents to give my office a call if there is something I can help with.”
