Santa Clarita Congressman Mike Garcia Secures $20 Million In Transportation Bill

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, has just announced that he has secured $20 million for California’s 25th District in the current version of the House’s transportation reauthorization bill.

Though the bill must still pass through the House and Senate and eventually the President’s desk, Garcia’s contribution is expected to greatly improve mobility, safety, and efficiency in the Northern Los Angeles County area including Santa Clarita, according to a statement from Garcia’s office.

The funds from this bill are budgeted to go towards transportation and infrastructure projects in California’s 25th District, which includes Santa Clarita. The funding for these improvements is currently already included in legislation in the House.

“This funding would support the increasing of capacity at Rancho Vista Boulevard in Palmdale, upgrade a rail crossing at Sequoia Avenue in Simi Valley, support construction of a bridge extending Commerce Center Drive across the Santa Clara River to Santa Clarita and unincorporated Los Angeles County, and fund needed traffic improvements throughout the city of Santa Clarita,” Garcia stated.

Current legislation that is yet to pass includes funding for these multiple projects within the district, $8.6 million towards traffic operations on Rancho Vista Boulevard in Palmdale, $4 million for the Sequoia Avenue railroad grade crossing upgrade in Simi Valley, $3.6 million for a new bridge off of Commerce Center Drive in Santa Clarita and $3.6 million towards the modification of existing medians, striping and asphalt throughout the city of Santa Clarita.

“As we aim to responsibly initiate the economic recovery process, it is paramount that we continue to seek partnerships to build and improve on our existing infrastructure and roadways. I enthusiastically commend Representative Garcia and express my sincere appreciation for his tireless efforts and success in securing this crucial project in the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill and look forward to continuing to work with the Congressman as the legislation makes its way through Congress,”  said Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda.

  1. Hopefully it can be used to widen the Newhall Pass or roads under or over the 14 to the 210 &/or 126 to the 118!?

  2. Did he actually secure it himself? Or were these projects already in the works for years even before he was in office??

Can I take credit for the millions my place of work takes in? I was there when it happened too!

  3. US Rep. Garcia is already taking credit for something that is just a bill. He pretends that he is woirking with the Dems in solving America’s problems but in reality he is in the same Trump won bandwagon.

    • Hey Joe, move on, this is your ‘mans’ administration now, deal with it, not the last administration.

He’s still torturing your small mind, apparently.

  4. The article does not give much detail, but this appears to be the result of earmarks claimed by the congressman.
