Santa Clarita City Council candidates for the 2022 election cycle reported the results of their fundraising efforts from the beginning of this year.

Contributions for the most recent filing period are reported by candidates in their Form 460, which are available online at VoteSantaClarita.

Laurene Weste

Current City Mayor Laurene Weste received a total of $48,008.00 in contributions, with $45,170.41 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Weste’s campaign spent $2,862.52, with no outstanding debts.

First elected in 1998, Weste served as a Commissioner for the City Parks and Recreation Commission before her addition to the Santa Clarita City Council.

Weste’s priorities include additional open space for the City, roads built to ease congestion, new sports fields created, the continued revitalization of Old Town Newhall, and an open space green belt completely surrounding the City, according to the City website.

Marsha McLean

Current City Councilmember Marsha McLean received a total of $34,145 in contributions, with $30,607.68 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, McLean’s campaign spent $3,537.32, with an outstanding debt of $10,000.

First elected in 2002, McLean has committed to working with the community to protect the environment and quality of life for residents of our Santa Clarita Valley, rallying citizens, business organizations, environmental groups, state and federal legislators to save Santa Clarita from being home to the world’s largest garbage dump, among other projects, according to the City website.

Bill Miranda

Current City Councilmember Bill Miranda received a total of $40,623 in contributions, with $43,631.12 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Miranda’s campaign spent $5,751.88, with no outstanding debts.

A member of the City Council since 2017, Miranda is an Air Force Veteran, local business owner, motivational speaker, former CEO of the Santa Clarita Valley Latino Chamber of Commerce, published author and a community leader in championing minority causes.

Denise Lite

Candidate Denise Lite received a total of $31,201 in contributions, with $32,721.81 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Lite’s campaign spent $18,090.85, with no outstanding debts.

A newcomer to the political scene, Lite is a Family Legal Advocate and non-profit leader who has turned her attention to improving her community.

“I believe the people of Santa Clarita deserve honest and effective representation in these complex times. Just like most residents of Santa Clarita, I’ve been out here living my life despite the pandemic,” Lite said. “I could not, however, remain on the sidelines as I saw the people of our community struggling, businesses closing and dreams being crushed. As a Council member, I will represent Santa Clarita residents with the same strong leadership, advocacy, and integrity I bring to my work as a family legal advocate and philanthropic board member. I know Santa Clarita residents are resilient and with strong leadership, we will continue to find a way through these difficult times together.”

Selina Thomas

Candidate Selina Thomas received a total of $15,370 in contributions, with $13,865.55 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Thomas’ campaign spent $6,117.30, with no outstanding debts.

A Human Relations professional and founder of 6 Degrees Consulting in Santa Clarita, Thomas previously worked as a social worker in Kern County.

“There are countless reasons I choose to serve. I am a small business owner, a single parent, a homeowner, a woman, and an invested community member,” Thomas said. “To all of these constituencies and more I would say that I am a reflection of what can be found in Santa Clarita and what can be accomplished.”

Jeffery Malick

Candidate Jeffery Malick received a total of $560 in contributions, with all of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Malick’s campaign had no expenses and no outstanding debts.

Malick is a Chief of Staff at Egon Zehnder International, with over 20 years of experience as a DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) leader, who has dedicated his career to putting people first.

“I am running to represent the values of Santa Clarita’s diverse working families at City Hall,” reads Malick’s website. “As a member of the local chapter of the NAACP, a member of PFLAG SCV, and an ally in the movements for gun safety, gender equity, economic justice, mental health, and racial justice, I speak up because I truly believe that being silent is being complacent.”

David Barlavi

Candidate David Barlavi received a total of $4,983.29 in contributions, with $3,255.35 of that cash currently on hand.

During the filing period, Barlavi’s campaign spent $6,169.36, with no outstanding debts.

A member of the Saugus Union School District Board since 2018, Barlavi is a tax, trust and estate planning attorney based in Santa Clarita.

“It’s been my honor and privilege the last 3 years to work alongside my fellow trustees to make my own kids’ school district more FUN, more productive, more conscientious and more safe,” reads Barlavi’s website. “I now hope to bring this forward thinking approach to our city council.”

Douglas Fraser

Candidate Douglas Fraser had not submitted campaign expenditures and fundraising information as of the publishing of this article. Fraser filed to be a candidate for City Council on June 6.

Fraser is a longtime resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and a member of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee.

Kody Amour

Amour had not submitted campaign expenditures and fundraising information as of the publishing of this article. Amour filed to be a candidate for City Council on July 13.

Possessing a B.S. in Mathematics from Arizona State University, Amour is a Santa Clarita resident who is currently homeless, using the resources available at Bridge to Home Shelter.

“Santa Clarita is one of the safest cities in the US. Our social fabric is woven tightly, which is why we can make bolder choices that other cities cannot make,” reads Amour’s website. “I am hoping that Santa Clarita is done voting based on identity politics, political experience or virtue signaling.  Instead, we need smart leaders with good ideas alongside clearly-outlined plans for those ideas.”
