Garcia Continues To Lead In Close Congressional Race

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, continues to remain ahead of Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, in the close race for the seat in California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25) Thursday, narrowly expanding his lead by only a few dozen votes.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Garcia slightly expanded his lead over Smith by 60 votes. He now leads by an estimated 219 votes.

Thursday’s update includes 454 total votes counted by portions of Ventura County that lie within CA-25. The next update from Los Angeles County is expected Friday afternoon.

The update comes after Garcia had regained his lead on Tuesday,  overcoming a gap of nearly 1,300 votes from the day before to establish a 159-vote lead.

When the first vote counts were reported at around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 3, Smith held a larger lead over Garcia, as the first round of reporting came from Democratic-leaning vote-by-mail ballots.

However, as the voting center ballots have slowly continued to be reported, Garcia gradually closed that gap.

Then, at around 7 p.m. Thursday, state officials reported that Garcia took the lead over Smith, leading by 265 votes at the time.

He expanded that lead during Friday’s update to 432. However, Smith earned 1,719 more votes than Garcia in Monday’s update, which placed her back in the lead by 1,287 votes.

Then, Garcia regained his lead the next day, as Tuesday’s update had him ahead of Smith by 159 votes.

The results as of Thursday afternoon can be viewed below:

Mike Garcia – R – Incumbent: 165,435 — 50.03%
Christy Smith – D: 165,216– 49.97%

Neither campaign has officially declared victory or conceded as of Thursday afternoon.

  1. We got a barn burner folks.

  2. In the blue state CA, I can’t believe the district people support the guy saying ” I believe Trump is good president, I support him”. So bottom line what did he better for this district?
