Garcia Maintains Lead Ahead Of County Certification In Tight Congressional Race

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, continued to maintain his lead over Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, in the tight race for the seat in California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25) Friday, with Los Angeles County set to certify their results on Monday.

As of 2:40 p.m. Friday, Garcia maintained his 405-vote lead after a total of 178 votes from Los Angeles County were counted, according to live election results from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office.

Friday’s update is expected to be the final one released by Los Angeles County ahead of their certification, which is currently scheduled for Monday, Nov. 30.

Garcia had previously declared victory on Nov. 20, stating that “with only a few remaining ballots to be counted, victory is clear.”

“I am honored by the supporters who voted for me and humbled by those who did not,” Garcia said in a statement issued Friday. “In the end, I will work hard for each and every one of you. And for our Nation.”

Later that night, Smith released a statement in response, calling Garcia’s declaration “dangerous to our democratic process.”

“The Congressman’s decision is wholly inappropriate, and disrespectful of those who have taken the time to vote this year,” she said. “Our county officials and Secretary of State Alex Padilla have done a phenomenal job of protecting every voter’s right to be heard in the most challenging election of our lifetime. We owe them and especially our voters our continued patience as the process is completed.”

When the first vote counts were reported at around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 3, Smith held a larger lead over Garcia, as the first round of reporting came from Democratic-leaning vote-by-mail ballots.

However, as the voting center ballots have slowly continued to be reported, Garcia gradually closed that gap.

Then, at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, state officials reported that Garcia took the lead over Smith, leading by 265 votes at the time.

He expanded that lead during the Nov. 6 update to 432. However, Smith earned 1,719 more votes than Garcia in the Nov. 9 update, which placed her back in the lead by 1,287 votes.

Then, Garcia regained his lead the next day, as the Nov. 10 update had him ahead of Smith by 159 votes. He later expanded that lead to 219 after 454 more votes were counted from Ventura County on Thursday.

Smith began to close that gap the next day, when a 2,479-vote dump from Los Angeles County placed the two candidates at only 104 votes apart.

However, the 2,241 votes counted from Los Angeles County and the 241 votes counted in Ventura County in Nov. 17’s update more than tripled the size of that gap.

That gap then narrowed slightly on Nov. 20, with an additional 2,241 votes from Los Angeles County placing Garcia and Smith within 400 votes of one another.

Garcia expanded that distance by a mere five votes after less than 600 votes were counted by Los Angeles and Ventura Counties on Nov. 24.

The results as of Friday afternoon can be viewed below:

Mike Garcia – R – Incumbent 169,464 — 50.06%
Christy Smith – D
169,059 — 49.94%

County officials across the state of California have until the beginning of December to report their final results to the state for the presidential race, while they have until Dec. 4 to report the results for all other races. The state then has one week from that deadline to certify the results of the 2020 election.

  1. Just more constant deceitful sleazy Liberal behavior! The sheeple will follow by toddler emotional intelligence!
Give me one generation of youth…..and I’ll change the world!……….. Vladimir Lenin. It’s working! Disgusting!

  2. It’s time to stop calling each other sleazy and dangerous. WE are all Americans, WE all care about our country. Please, stop and listen to each other and stop being so damn brainwashed.

  3. Hopefully Rep. Garcia will work towards ending all torture programs whether they are tax payer funded or not. This includes the long running tax payer funded mind control programs.

  4. Garcia won the May special election 55% to 45%, 95,667 to 78,721 votes.
He is leading this fraudulent election 50.06% to 49.94%, 169,464 to 169,059 votes.
In the November election there were 164,135 more votes than the May special election.
Interesting Smith got 55% of those additional votes.

    • This was the safest U.S. election of all time due to safeguards put into place following tampering in 2016. People rarely vote in special elections and this election had particularly high turnout due to the strong opinions (on both sides) about Trump. Warren, I believe you love this country, and in doing so please remember, the USA is not about Kings or Emperors but about the people. Country over party.

      • You call it the safest, I call it the most tampered with,

The only tampering that most folks remember about 2016 was done by the Obama administration, the FBI and the likes, 4+ years of it.
And if were supposed to believe the election results that 15 million more votes were received for old Joe than OBAMA or Hillary,

Apparently the majority of voters this time around chose Obama part 2, path of increased taxes, increased regulations, and an end to energy independence, and more of the past.

      • WHAT? Country over party, Luka? Tell the Dems that! Lie cheat steal as long as they win! Burn cities and ruin lives, no problem if it gets them in office.
Your kool aid is ready, go have some more.

  5. Christy,
Go have a good cry with Katie Hill.
