Small Business Advocate Announces Run For Santa Clarita City Council In 2022

Nationally Certified Human Resource Specialist, Selina Thomas has announced her run for a seat on the Santa Clarita City Council in the next municipal election.

Thomas officially filed to run in the 2022 municipal election on June 23 where she plans to advocate for small business protections amid economic recovery, according to documents filed with the City of Santa Clarita.

“I work with small businesses daily,” Thomas said in an interview with KHTS during her first run for City Council in 2020. “At the height of the pandemic, it became apparent that there was going to be a long recovery specifically and especially for small businesses. A lot of the issues that occurred during the terms of the PPP, unemployment, all of those nuances required someone that is experienced in the crisis so that they can work towards a recovery.”

With her experience as the Founder of 6 Degrees HR Consulting and a Nationally Certified Human Resource Specialist, Thomas recognizes that “we are just a sample of what’s happened nationally, but we can definitely be the model of how to recover.”

If elected for the 2022 term, Thomas plans to prioritize the recovery of Santa Clarita small businesses and continue her work to set the pace of the infrastructure moving forward, according to Thomas.

“Because we didn’t have a COVID handbook, there were a lot of limitations as to what the City could do because you don’t know what you don’t know,” Thomas said. “My first order of business would be to help develop that response in a way that supports small businesses.”

Since her first run for Santa Clarita City Council in 2020, Thomas has continued her work as a board member of the WiSH Education Foundation and was named named a Rising Star by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Despite not receiving the votes my first time around, I will always lend myself as a servant in this community no matter what,” Thomas said. “I’m proud of continuing my work while also staying very engaged in the business sector.”

Thomas works closely with many Santa Clarita companies, employment attorneys and insurance brokers to support the businesses of Santa Clarita and the real people who have brought those businesses to life, while assisting in their economic recovery from the impact of COVID-19, according to officials.

In addition to aiding in Santa Clarita’s economic recovery, Thomas’s main goals include bringing back organized sports and returning to school as well as developing jobs that are sustainable income-wise and working on being a desirable community for big businesses, according to Thomas.

“Once COVID is over, I’d like for big businesses to see the landscape that we have with our proximity to Los Angeles and abundance of open space,” Thomas said. “We have many mutually beneficial opportunities to make Santa Clarita a great place to both live and work.”

During the 2020 race for Santa Clarita City Council, Thomas had led in terms of money raised during her first month, with over $20,000 in contributions, according to City officials.

“I’m no politician, I’m a businesswoman,” Thomas said. “I work to receive input from everyone, from golfers to girl scouts. It’s important that people can relate to the people in those city council seats and I have a lot of layers. I’m a mom, I’m a business owner and everything I stand for has come to me organically.”

  1. I would be interested to hear more about what you would do about Covid response for small businesses given that most of the response is controlled by the County and State not the City, and how it would differ from what our current City resps did. Do you support the Progressive agenda of mandatory masking, closures, large transfers of wealth?

  2. It says here she is a registered Independent. I would bet she leans to the Left considering 90% of African Americans in the U.S. vote Democrat. All Calfornia Democrat politicians follow the marching orders of Pelosi and Newsom. If you open your eyes, find one Democrat run city that is thriving? You can’t. They are the highest crime, highest taxed, pro-drugs, pro-open border, and much more. Perhaps she would agree to an interview with Larry Elder or Candace Owens to see how she would govern Santa Clarita.

  3. Question, does Salina Thomas support Kamala Harris? I would bet on it.

    • Hi Rufus I happen to respect Larry Elder, his story and journey. Even if one has opposing political views respect is the foundation of my values. Larry Elder and I actually have very similar values regarding Hard-work, no excuses or pity parties. I, like him was raised by an incredibly hardworking father which is reflected in my results in business and life. I would love to chat about my vision for Santa Clarita. To your other comment I support anyone in leadership because I respect our democracy.

Looking forward to you getting to know me.

  4. So you took one look at her and made your assumptions. That is pretty much the description of bigotry
