Smith Closes Gap, Garcia Still Leads In Tight Congressional Race

Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, closed the gap between herself and Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, in the tight race for the seat in California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25) Friday, with just over 100 votes separating the two.

As of 2:56 p.m. Friday, Smith had narrowed Garcia’s 219-vote lead down to just 104 votes after a total of 2,479 votes from Los Angeles County were counted.

The update comes after Garcia had regained his lead on Tuesday,  overcoming a gap of nearly 1,300 votes from the day before to establish a 159-vote lead. He later expanded that lead by only 60 more votes on Thursday.

When the first vote counts were reported at around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 3, Smith held a larger lead over Garcia, as the first round of reporting came from Democratic-leaning vote-by-mail ballots.

However, as the voting center ballots have slowly continued to be reported, Garcia gradually closed that gap.

Then, at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, state officials reported that Garcia took the lead over Smith, leading by 265 votes at the time.

He expanded that lead during the Nov. 6 update to 432. However, Smith earned 1,719 more votes than Garcia in the Nov. 9 update, which placed her back in the lead by 1,287 votes.

Then, Garcia regained his lead the next day, as the Nov. 10 update had him ahead of Smith by 159 votes. He later expanded that lead to 219 after 454 more votes were counted from Ventura County on Thursday.

The results as of Friday afternoon can be viewed below:

Mike Garcia – R – Incumbent: 166,617 — 50.02%
Christy Smith – D: 166,513– 49.98%

County officials across the state of California have until the beginning of December to report their final results to the state for the presidential race, while they have until Dec. 4 to report the results for all other races. The state then has one week from that deadline to certify the results of the 2020 election.

Neither campaign has officially declared victory or conceded as of Friday afternoon.

  1. And they are off… and running.

Rounding the first curve it’s Smith with Garcia starting to move up.
Down the straightaway Garcia continues to close the lead.
Heading into the bend it’s Garcia taking the lead and pulling away.
Smith is now making her move and overtaking Garcia.
It’s neck and neck as they approach the finish line.
We now cut away briefly for a message from our sponsors.

    • Who will win the trophy.

    • NO! NO Commercials NOW! I wanna see who the winner is! Commercials ruin everything!

      • Sorry Arn-
During the break a flatulent ass with terminal mental diarrhea ran onto the field disrupting the event. What a maximum waste of DNA he is. We’ll just have to wait.

        • You were right, Arn, when you said bottom fish are the easiest to catch. I didn’t even mention his name but lookie who raised his hand and began shouting out his south end again. That loser jumped right into the boat! I’ve known for some time he’s obsessed with me but now, based on his retort of Nov. 10, I think he’s also sexually attracted to me. Like nearly everything else emanating from him he is wrong about my sexual orientation too. Try cruising over the hill, Marco. Not interested.

  2. Come on Christy Pulling for you!

  3. What does sniff my six mean? Is that a gun euphemism? Or is that like 6 o’clock on your body referring to your balls? Classy… Take a deep breath Marco, everything is going to be fine. It’s all out of our control and no cares about any of our opinions. No matter what, this is a great country.
