Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, has been awarded the National Federation of Independent Business’ “Guardian of Small Business Award” officials said Wednesday.

The Guardian of Small Business Award is the National Federation of Independent Business’ (NFIB) most prestigious recognition for legislators who consistently support small business. John Kabateck, State Director of NFIB presented Wilk with the award..

“Small business is the economic engine of California, representing 99.8 percent of all job-creating business in the state and two-thirds of all private sector jobs. These companies come in all shapes and sizes, but most importantly, they employ almost half of all Californians,” said Wilk. “Supporting small business is supporting my community, my constituents and their families.”

The NFIB is the nation’s largest group of small and independent business owners. The organization represents more than 300,000 members nationally and more than 20,000 in California.

Wilk received a perfect score from the NFIB on its Legislative Score Card at the conclusion of the 2018 Legislative session. At the end of each legislative year, the NFIB identifies key legislation and the action taken on it by both the Senate and the Assembly and compiles a scorecard for each legislator. “I am honored to be recognized for my efforts on behalf of the millions of Californians who are small business owners or are employed at a small business,” said Wilk. “I will continue to prioritize policies that encourage job growth in our state, or stopping the ones that don’t.
